Orangeslice13, a blessing to those around him…..Again

Thirty or so years ago, I remodeled a house in South Knoxville that probably didn’t deserve it.

That being said, we did it anyway.

Other than the subs, we basically had two carpenters as Our Guys. They were completely awesome, great skills, both of them with 10+ years chips from AA, so whenever anything went wrong, they reported immediately and fixed it then and there. (I * puffy heart * twelve-steppers.)

The memory that I will always carry is from the older one, a son of the hills, who would periodically say, “Would’ja come look a’ this. I hain’t never seen nothin’ like this afore.” (write change order)

People b!tch about new construction. Until you remodel, your soul has not yet been tested.

Yes. When we bought our current home, the government inspector would have pulled the CO. We've been remodeling it for 9 years, doing one project per year from money saved. Unless I finally tackle the master bath, it's done. Though I am in a major landscaping project for the slope in the front yard. Should have that finished ~September.

Hey Slice, I am fixin to embark on a tree fort for the kids. Is there a best way to attach the 2x6 rim joists to the 4x4 posts? Steel brackets? Notch the 4x4 so the 2x6 fits into it and then lag bolt the joists to the 4x4? I am thinking the notch and bolt method unless you give me a better method. If you haven't guessed, I ain't never done this before. And, will 2x6 work or do I need to go with 2x10?

The potential for greatness on this is equal to the potential for total disaster/waste of money/injury to me and or the kids.

Post a drawing of what you have in mind with measurements. We will go from there.

Well the whole design is a constantly changing picture in what's left of my brain. I will see what I can draw up. And will be the most unsafe thing any kid could be on. I am now thinking of adding a zipline. I really should stay off youtube...
