Not even a full year on campus, slipped on one rep in a 2minute video on day 1, tired in the heat on day 2 and he gone? lol

The truth is JJP might be a bust, he might be a nice contributor, he might end up ALL American. No one knows. But everyone wants to make a prediction and be right. And it's easy to say he sucks and will be a bust. "I said it way back when!", "TOLD YOU GUYS, I'M A GENIUS!". The sad part is we're grown ass men on here and he's a kid. Oh and he's also a member of our favorite football team. So I'm a big fan of letting it play out a little longer and see how he responds to coaching and development before I trash a kid on the team. Especially a kid that's not even been on campus a year. But that's just me. GBO
I get all of that, but complaining about the heat...he definitely needs to strengthen his mind or he will be a bust

Pruitt’s talked some this offseason about the team getting simply bigger. We may not know much about them yet, but Darrel Middleton, Elijah Simmons and Darnell Wright are giant people. And the Vols already got bigger this spring with Wanya Morris and Aubrey Solomon.

Media got to see a little more than half a period of WRs vs. DBs working on releases in the viewing period today. Third corner up in the drill for every single rep: True freshman early enrollee Warren Burrell.

Good to see Bennett’s name up there. I had mentally written him off as someone not to expect much from.

Happy to be wrong on that

I had written Bennett off long ago after he failed to pop in any practice reports, sounded undersized and out of shape, and barely played in any games his first few years. ...I’m surprised to learn some folks can develop and improve over time.

Not when you already know the ending. Hard knocks is the og of that genre and still do it best. Qb1 is also very good because you get to see 3 high school qbs their senior year and the pressures entailed, i recommend it.
To each their own. I’ve never been able to watch a season of hard knocks. I’ll check QB1 out. Wasn’t Fromm on it one year?

In 2019 we have 2 DL under 280lbs (273, 271)

In 2015 we had 13. 4 of those were under 250. One was 226.

2015 roster had 4 DL over 300lbs. 2019 has 8.

Thanks for this. That's pretty eye-opening. I know folks said Butch was recruiting too many small players/project types but I didn't think it was on DL. That said, the DL was surprisingly good that particular year despite its size. I do remember it was thinner than tissue paper in terms of depth (and apparently weight as well) tho.

He played in some games late last year which at least peaked my interest that he was developing

I was thinking this about Darrell Taylor. He's a 5th year senior, was a blue chipper out of high school and prior to the 2 or 3 games he actually seemed to show up in last year his prior claim for contribution to Vol lore was his comment walking into the battle of Bristol, WGWTFA. Imagine what he could do if he shows up in all 15 of our games this year.

Not going to belabor the point, but 1 year later, I still think JJ Peterson will not be more than a slight contributor.

Reasons are known already. Hope I’m wrong. Carry on
In Pruitts interview he mentioned about practicing without pads that some look bad and will look good when the pads come on; and some look good now but will look bad when pads come on.... I immediately though he must be talking about JJ

When I was at UT, we'd go to Buddy's BBQ (I think - a BBQ place, anyway) on Friday's to listen/watch Knoxville Grass play. Had to get there really early in the late afternoon to get a place at one of the long tables to sit, order food and beer, and wait. Good times!!!
Amen, brother! And the sad thing was, I moved away and years later was going back to Ktown with my son, and called ahead to ask what night the bluegrass would be ... they said, we haven't had that here in years. 😮

I think the media is piling on the JJP stuff because they know he’s an easy target and had a rough year.

Not saying any of it is wrong - just more likely to be reported.
Thought the exact same. Has nothing to do with right or wrong, but the magnifying glass is going to be there now.

That 15 defense wasn’t perfect but we all better hope this years defense is as good. If so we can have a great year. That was a very solid D
Fair to middling. Never very good TEAM defense. Depended on playing off Barnett’s pass rushing and individual performances like JRM’s and Sutton’s.

There is no doubt that there are warning signs. But we also have to remember, this is the kids FIRST fall camp. He was even injured in the spring and couldn't go 100%. He might not have it mentally, we don't know. But he has 4 years left in this program including this one. To write him off this early is unfair
Yeah, the problem is those warning signs have persisted for a year. Sure, he could flip the switch at any point in time, but reading what is in front of us, I question whether he has the personal drive and discipline to excel.
Physical giftedness gets washed out at the next level.

Just opinion based between lines

‘15 we were just fat

‘19 we are strong

Just because you weigh 315 lbs doesn’t mean it’s good weight.

The difference at the point of attack should be stark this year.

I hope that’s the case and I believe it may be true If we get Solomon eligible. If he isn’t I see no reason whatsoever to expect us to be strong in the middle. In fact it’s the biggest weakness on the team imo

Thread on Bama247 from a Bama poster predicting how he thinks the season plays out (I only included the SEC but he predicted all 5 power conf's), this should cause some discussion...

Where do UGA's 3 losses come from?

Hard to see UT winning more than 9 and Mizzou winning the East.

Seen it discussed on 247 and my conclusion is that his entire post was just so he could jab at UGA. The fact is UGA is seriously battling Bama in recruiting and on the field. They are easily Saban's closest competition in the league right now. I think this guy is just trolling them. And I can't blame him for it.

Also posted by him:
"Luck has little to do with it. It is more about strength and conditioning. Cochran has done good enough for us that he deserves ample opportunity to right the ship, but if he doesn’t then Saban needs to can his ass."

He may just be an idiot.
