No, but he apparently has conditioning issues.
I think we just have to take these things with a grain of salt. For example, "Jauan Jennings had a pair of drops and several others struggled to catch the ball, too", "Savion Williams was timid yesterday" "Simmons had two bad reps today" etc. etc. Its day 2 of fall camp and they see 3-5 minutes. These things don't mean that much.

that said, I'm not denying that there are concerns about Peterson. The statement that he was struggling with the heat is ridiculous. Get over it. All I'm saying is, he has 3 years left after this one to get it together. Guy was a monster in high school. It's too early to give-up on him.

Under sunny skies and some real heat, Tennessee held its second practice of fall camp Saturday afternoon.

The media saw four periods, nearly all individual work.

Here are some quick observations…

DB Jerrod Means, 25

LB Quavaris Crouch, 27

LB Roman Harrison, 30

DB Kenney Solomon, 31

OL Jackson Lampley, 50

DL Savion Williams, 50

DL Elijah Simmons, 51

OL Wanya Morris, 64

As for practice notes, much of the same from Day 1. Lots of focus on fundamentals. Despite the heat, the tempo of practice was good, outside of two guys Kevin Sherrer was not pleased with among his inside linebacker group.

The Vols did the same half-line and full-line offensive line drills, with the same group from yesterday going first: Wanya Morris, Trey Smith, who only simulated the drill, Brandon Kennedy, K’Rojhn Calbert and Marcus Tatum. When the line started to work on more contact stuff, Smith went to the side and worked with a GA and a bag.

We’ve mentioned how Jim Chaney would bring some added wrinkles to the offense and the jet sweep is certainly among those. Chaney ran that play a lot at Georgia, and out of various formations. On Saturday, Tennessee worked on the quick jet motion out of a bunch formation to the short side of the field. The outside receiver went in motion and the tailback in the backfield became the lead blocker. The Vols rotated a bunch of guys taking handoffs, including Josh Palmer, Marquez Callaway, Jordan Murphy and Tyler Byrd.

When the units spilt up, the quarterbacks and tailbacks focused on the mesh-point, with the running back rotation going as expected to start: Ty Chandler, Tim Jordan, Jeremy Banks and Eric Gray.

I spent just a couple quick minutes with the tight ends today, and both freshman appeared to bounce-back from a tough open period Friday. Lowe received a pair of audible praises, including one GA screaming, “Attaboy Jackson Lowe!” After the freshman displayed some power and leverage on a blocking drill.

The routes on air period was rough today, despite the perfect conditions. Outside of one really high throw, I thought Jarrett Guarantano looked much crisper, but his receivers didn’t help him much. Jauan Jennings had a pair of drops and several others struggled to catch the ball, too. Notably, Jennings took ever rep in the slot, with Murphy and Jacquez Jones working behind him. In the next period, the cornerbacks and wideouts worked on press coverage/releases. Bryce Thompson showcased why he has All-SEC potential, locking down Josh Palmer on a pair of reps. Senior Brandon Johnson impressively won two reps and Cedric Tillman had a win, too. Notably, Warren Burrell was next up after Thompson and Alontae Taylor everytime. Jerrod Means has a super long reach, but it’s clear that learning some of the fundamentals to play corner will take time.

Defensively, John Mincey and Emmit Gooden were two of the more impressive lineman during dummy work. Tracy Rocker, much calmer so far in camp, was pleased with both several times. Elijah Simmons had to redo a couple reps but responded well to tough coaching each time. Also, a day after looking a bit timid in line, Savion Williams was eager to take more reps today.

During three-man line drills, the following groups worked together: Matthew Butler, Gooden and Aubrey Solomon. Then Mincey, Kingston Harris and Ja’Quain Blakely. After that was Latrell Bumphus, Greg Emerson and Savion Williams and Middleton, Simmons and a walk-on.

At inside linebacker, Sherrer was all over JJ Peterson, who was visibly struggling with the heat. Conversely, he had a couple compliments for To’oto’o, who looks to process things quickly. To’oto’o spent time in-between reps talking with Kevin Simon and has nice lateral quickness for a guy who’s 235 pounds.

Didn’t see a ton of the secondary today, but in the little I saw it looked like McCollough was working a lot at STAR. Also, I really like how Trevon Flowers moves.

No sign Saturday of Jordan Allen or Chris Akporoghene, both who worked with trainers.

I think we could see a lot of McCollough at STAR if Baylen’s injury keeps him out this year.

Details of the injury?

And notice no mention of

Notice no mention of Shamburger. Hard to believe he hasn’t come on

What are the details of Baylee’s injury ?

Watching a season unfold from behind the scenes is so much better than watching preseason football
Not when you already know the ending. Hard knocks is the og of that genre and still do it best. Qb1 is also very good because you get to see 3 high school qbs their senior year and the pressures entailed, i recommend it.

Could this be CJP first bust🤔
Not even a full year on campus, slipped on one rep in a 2minute video on day 1, tired in the heat on day 2 and he gone? lol

The truth is JJP might be a bust, he might be a nice contributor, he might end up ALL American. No one knows. But everyone wants to make a prediction and be right. And it's easy to say he sucks and will be a bust. "I said it way back when!", "TOLD YOU GUYS, I'M A GENIUS!".

The sad part is we're grown ass men on here and he's a kid. Oh and he's also a member of our favorite football team. So I'm a big fan of letting it play out a little longer and see how he responds to coaching and development before I trash a kid on the team. Especially a kid that's not even been on campus a year. But that's just me. Others prefer to sit on the couch and trash a kid that's working hard in fall camp.
