The main complaint with Chaney with most dawgs is his lack of adjustments on the fly. The theory seems to be that he has trouble game planning during a game when the opposing defenses counter his game plan, I.e. halftime adjustments, etc. They make some valid claims but I see it both ways.

He’s not perfect. I distinctly remember his 4th down call against Vandy in Kirby’s first year where Isaiah McKenzie took a toss sweep. The smallest guy on the field, and Vandy’s good LB stuffed it. Didn’t understand it.

But Chaney is light year’s ahead of what we had.

I forgot he tweeted that today. Totally agree. Screw all this noise about Freshmen this and Freshmen that. Make it almost impossible to start as a frosh at Tennessee again.

The best thing is he can play both sides and can take over for a kid who hits that Freshman wall. I won’t put Niehaus in the same class, but he could do the same on the right side. At tackle, at least, there’s some talent and depth, if not experience.
And some size to boot.

Hmm, they act like we don’t have a clue about Chaney. Like he wasn’t our OC in the past or anything...

I agree. I think Georgia fans are speaking from their experience with Chaney utilizing the TE position and I think they may be discounting the offensive philosophy of their head coach during that time. When Eason was running their offense the TE was a factor but in Fromm’s first year as the QB the TE production mostly disappeared. It picked up a little last year but nothing like was typical of a Chaney offense when he was at Tennessee or Arkansas.

Even during the one year Chaney was at Pitt the TE position produced 37 receptions, 597 yards, and 9 TDs. All total in the past 10 years, Chaney’s TEs have accounted for 399 receptions, 5,276 yards receiving, and 43 TDs.

Typically Chaney would have one of the top 3 TE in the conference and in 2012 he had the #1 TE in Rivera. Hunter Henry was the 2nd most productive TE in the SEC as a freshman at Arkansas in 2013. His numbers in 2014 as a sophomore were even better.

I suspect Chaney may not have been the sole reason Georgia may have underutilized the TE position over the past couple of years. With Fromm around 63% of their offense in devoted to running the ball. It was more balanced with Eason – which is what I think most are expecting to see from Chaney on his return to Tennessee. jmo.
