What’s a better strategy:

Being honest with a kid and saying “we want to see you work on X Y & Z before we can promise you a spot”

Or

Taking a commitment on a kid you’re not sold on and then have to do the awkward “git shirt” issuance and risk burning bridges with the kids school?

Brandon Kennedy - think he becomes a reliable contributor or naw.... and don’t say depends on if he stays healthy. That’s for everyone.

Personally I don’t think he does stay healthy and we got Ryan Johnson starting by mid season.

I don't listen to Basilio, but he seems to be one of those who dislikes Pruitt's recruiting strategy. Pruitt's willing to let guys walk if they won't come to campus and be evaluated. And he's willing to let talent go elsewhere if they want to commit before he's ready to take their commitment. It means we get in late on some players and can't make up ground, and it means we lose guys who're offended that UT wouldn't take an early commitment. And it can domino when guys who feel slighted try to turn other recruits against us.

That strategy is less risky for Saban at Bama than it is for Pruitt at UT, but that's how this staff recruits. We're going to lose some guys we could've had and gain some guys we didn't think we'd get-- all by waiting. We can't recruit like Ark and UK and expect to field a team like Bama and UGA.

Ultimately, I think Pruitt knows what he's doing. Someone made the point earlier that our 11th ranked class may prove to be much better than other more highly ranked classes. I know I'm not revealing something new, but there's a lot more to recruiting than metrics, and I think Pruitt has proven he knows what he is doing. I'm doing everything I can not to let my optimism for this season get out of control.

Just win baby, and all this other stuff will fade.

IS he going to become a reliable contributor, ignoring the many possibilities of playing injuries, practice injuries, falling on helmets, or just being rusty?

I'm not sure yet

Flying into Chicago. Best food places to eat. Go

The Girl and the Goat and Maple and Ash are great. Au Cheval has one of the best cheesburgers you will ever eat you just have to go at an off time or the wait will be LONG. Do the River Cruise. Hang out in the Triangle by Tavern on Rush.

On the depth chart I was looking at, 5th Running back in the rotation. This is a guy who is 5th in the rotation! Wow.
And all he does is produce when he gets a chance. More touches please. Gamer

Career 5.9 YPA and not just vs bums

Same 5.9 YPA vs SEC opponents too.

Maybe it's the "they've not done it yet" in me, but I'd rather they put Carvin at center. Just a sophomore and plenty of experience and potential to become a beast. I feel like Kennedy & Johnson are just kind of solid, but not great. Or I guess if they feel better about Carvin as a guard and then you play Kennedy or Johnson at Center and Garland as the other Guard that'd work well too.

I think some are undervaluing Chaney coming in from a playcalling perspective. Helton was inconsistent at best. You take a look at the Florida game and he called chicken**** plays because he didnt trust anyone to work through it. Chaney has seen it, been through it a million times and will call plays to set up plays later on.

Injuries and switching positions have held CFA back. He's coming off surgery that cost him the spring and is supposed to be full-go for camp. If he can stay healthy (and not fumble), we could sure use his speed. Chaney likes those sweeps out of the backfield, and CFA could be the guy.

Yup, Chaney has the experience to play the metagame. Excited to see this again. Some dogged Debord when he came on, but he proved himself savvy, especially at setting up later plays. Some of those wide open wheel routes to Hurd were things of beauty.

Helton thought ramming our heads against the wall running uselessly up the gut for 3 quarters to set up a 4Q play action pass was the definition of setting up your opponent. Total amateur hour.

One more thing on CFA. This isn't a knock on Banks, I think he has a lot of tools to become a solid RB, just comparing him because 1) some are enamored with him (rightfully so, I love his POTENTIAL), and 2) they have the exact same number of carries. Yes JB was only a FR, though 45/52 of CFA's carries are from his first 2 years.

Banks: 52 carries 185 yards (3.6 ypc)
P5 opps 19 carries 54 yards (2.8)

CFA: 52 carries 309 yards (5.9)
P5 opps 45 carries 260 yards (5.8)

Again, nothing to do with Banks other than a means of comparison. Just hoping CFA gets more touches. He's earned it through his actual gameplay imo. Maybe he's just not a practice guy.
