The Atlanta Braves

For Thor/Díaz- Waters, Anderson, Wright, Jenista (idk if that’s enough)

Puig- Allard/Wentz

I’d AA went all out, I would try that.

I’m all for being aggressive, but the worst thing we can do his half ass it. If giving up a ton for a closer is the only move, I’d rather sit out the deadline entirely.

Can’t send that message to the team though. AA is in a tough spot. He’s gotta do enough to keep the clubhouse but to really alter the plane of contention, it’s going to be multiple moves at premium prices.

Sell the farm for a guy who may or may not pitch 3 innings in a playoff series. Cmon

We have no idea who they would want in return. Getting a bum like Diaz isn't going to be a difference maker.

Vasquez is 100× better than Diaz

And one thing being overlooked... we don’t have many filler guys. We don’t have guys at the tier of what the mets sent to blue jays for stroman. We have a cache of high ceiling guys we can use to overpay and then we have guys that don’t move the needle for other orgs. We also don’t have the international FA market to help fill the org back up. There are many moving pieces.

I’d still focus more on getting a starter (Robbie Ray, Greinke, Thor, someone like that not Tanner Roark). I can move Gausman to the pen (I still think he can relieve), I get Webb back soon, (mayyybbbeeee Day brings something) and then come potential playoff time I move Fried to the pen.

Thor/Greinke
Soroka
Keuchel
Teheran

Rental reliever
Fried
Gausman
Webb
Newk
Blevins
Jackson
Swarzak

Díaz isn’t a bum. Vázquez is great but you act likes he is Mariano and Díaz is Dan Kolb. Come on.

Díaz was the best reliever in baseball last year dude lol

Last year, AA had the luxury of slow playing with the surprise season and all the young. He could make low cost moves and they all were fine (and the Gausman trade was still good, we gave up nothing and he was needed last year).

At some point we gotta go in. The Acuna/Ozzie extensions don’t make it as urgent. But we do need to make a big move at some point. AA has done it before. I don’t want to give up a lot for Boyd or a reliever, but a guy like Thor or Greinke? And then get a rental OF? I’m all in.

And Vasquez is this year or close it and he's available. I'm not saying to give up your best player, but how about a couple of better minor league players and maybe Riley?

Vázquez isn’t really available, just heard Ken Rosenthal say it.

And you don’t trade top prospects for relievers. Ever. The Mets just gave up two top 100 prospects for the best reliever in baseball last year and you think he absolutely sucks.

Well, get ready for Luke Jackson vs. The middle of the Cubs or Dodgers lineup. You know how that will end up.

It’s going to be interesting because I don't think the clubhouse would react well if he upgraded at RF, for instance.

He has to make moves. And they have to be the right moves.

I agree that you can't overvalue prospects just because they're yours, but there's a reason teams have whole departments devoted to projecting prospects.

I’m all for trading guys in the 50-100 range or trading pitching prospects. You can’t trade guys like Pache or Contreras/Waters for rentals or relievers. You got to get real value for them.

Diaz ERA is 4.95 with 6 blown saves

His ERA before this year in 191 innings was 2.64. He’s pitched 40 innings this year. So we’re dealing with a SSS. Also if you take his three worst innings this year is ERA is under 3.

Also using strictly ERA is a terrible way to evaluate relief pitchers.

I would think (hope, I guess) they understand the situation with markakis being out and that Austin and ender cant hit. OF is a huge need.
