I was reading through vandys roster and projected two deep and noticed they have a ton of grad transfers and a surprising number of Junior college transfers (Surprising for vandy anyway.) It looks like Mason is trying to put a bandaid on the results of some really bad recruiting classes. This temporary fix isn't going to work and will hurt them more in the long run, the vols are about to surpass them in a big way and I believe we have many years of beatdowns to look forward to.

I agree that they suck... there is no getting around it. Derek Mason is just 24-38 as the head coach at Vanderbilt. They have lost at least 7 games in each of his 5 seasons. That record will get a head coach fired at literally any of the other 13 SEC schools. However, it also emphasizes what a shameful and sorry state any program must be in, to lose 3 straight games to them by an average of 18 points per game.

We haven’t had our program looked after until last year. We had great players under butch but no strength and conditioning. Playing Vandy last every year beaten to the ground hasn’t helped. Our second string should be enough but lately that isn’t the case.

I like your optimism that we will be better, but cant help but think this is one of those thoughts that should be kept to yourself. At this point it only makes Tennessee look worse especially since we haven't beaten Vandy in 3 years.
41-23... that is the average score with which they have beaten us since 2016. I never would have believed it possible 15 years ago.

In spite of Vandy losing 7 games last year, the team didn't quit on Mason, and they were competitive in every loss but two last season. He may never be able to get the talent he needs to make more of Vandy than it is, but regardless of the overall record, his teams perform about as well as you'd expect given the recruited talent levels.

Still hate them, and all 356 members of their fan base.

I love what your preaching, but in my hometown when you win 3 in a row on Thanksgiving day they retire a trophy. Vandy just retired one on us. Until further notice that Senior class gets to say we suck they are 3-0

Why're you seemingly more concerned about Vanderbilt than UT? But I'll humor you. VU, if memory serves is Mason's first HC job. Mason isn't an imbecile as he knows if he is even marginally successful in the SEC, and at Vandy of all places, he stays put. This is not only where if no championship is won, bowl games are a perennial certainty. Additionally, he figures he can pull a James Franklin stepping stone move and end at a traditional power program and be in $$$$. And if bandaids (we're doing it too) are needed to reach any of those goals, get them by the truckload.

As for the Vols, we've been in a quagmire for a while now, but there's finally a well-anchored vine close enough to grab and pull ourselves out. We may still get mud smeared, wet, icky, and stinky a bit but we'll get out. I dare say it begins this season.

I would agree. However, the one reason that Mason is still the head coach at Vanderbilt is the 3-2 record vs Tennessee. Once that script is flipped (and it will be), 5-7 won't cut it anymore.

The point is that there is ample evidence to believe that that is all behind us now. It has been a dark point in vols history but it's behind us now.

I totally believe that - but lets actually beat them on the field before we start beating our chests about it, eh? Once we clobber them this year, as we should, you may resume the smack talk at your leisure.

These grad transfers are from Harvard, Marist and a couple other powerhouses, they did get a long snapper from bama as well. They are way behind on talent and in coach Pruitt's second year it will become obvious.

I think the guy is a really good football coach and has done much better than I expected him to. He doesn't have the recruiting ability that James Franklin has though and that is going to keep them at the back of the pack, especially since Tennessee is about to turn the corner.

Maybe. I'm not convinced that the Vandy trustees care enough about the profitability of the program, or the success of the program for that matter, to make a change. As long as Mason makes a bowl game on the regular, and keeps it close in most of his losses, I don't see them axing him before some other school possibly offers him a job.

... and yet they've beat us 3 times straight. So, basically you're saying we suck even worse than Vandy.

And those last 2 losses were blow outs! Makes me sick. What's that saying- Revenge is sweet when best served with _____? I forgot. Killed too many brain cells trying to get those losses out of my mind.....
