Losing to UF AGAIN will leave a sour taste no matter what, but it won't crash the season. Going 3-1 in September will be viewed positively by most fans and recruits. Recruiting is critical. If we go 2-2 in September, then follow that up with losses to UGA and Bama, most of these "wait and see recruits" aren't going to like what they see.
From what little you might have seen thus far, how do we look? I know it’s hard to judge ,but you have more insight than anyone else.

The only way losing to FL will look or be perceived even somewhat okay this season is if it comes down to a last drive/two minute drill or a field goal to win it in the final seconds...

Thread on A&M 247 site this morning asking why is Tennessee recruiting so well? Poster says, "I don’t know if they land anyone, but why do they seem to be in the top tier for a large group of top kids? There is no logic behind it. No huge-name coach, no major facilities upgrades, not geographically significant, it’s been a pretty long time since they were “Tennessee”... it doesn’t smell right."

And surprising to me most of the responses are calling him an idiot/saying why UT is great...

Knoxville is awesome.
Fan base is huge.
Pruitt is a young, well respected name.
They have a hell of a lot more success historically than we do.

Tennessee has a good football history. Geographically they arent far from the richest recruiting territory in the country and are right between ATL, Charlotte, Louisville, memphis, N Alabama, VA etc. Location wise they are within 4 hours of a TON of talent. And their coach has won multiple championships as a DC although he’s unproven as a HC. And a huge stadium and loyal fanbase. It’s not that complicated.

Knoxville is awesome

Dumb question. Tennessee is an all-time program. If you’re baffled over why they recruit well, then you should be phoning a friend as to why we do too.

When UT started pulling 5 star DL out of Cali I thought they were about to do some big things. Amazing how inept Butch was.

I'll never forget how tiny our players looked compared to theirs in the 2005 Cotton Bowl.

"Knoxville is awesome" is gonna make me sick

Nobody's seen much of anything. Some of the guys are noticeably bigger and the chemistry seems better, but the team will be a lot different than it was in the spring game. It'll be interesting to see who emerges in fall camp. Just a few weeks away.

Practice will be open August 4, so we'll get to see the new guys. A lot of them will be in the rotation.

I think what matters coming out of September is the perception that we have the coaches we just need the players. To get there, the players they now have should have come a long way from last year both physically and how they work together and compete. In game coaching will be key also.

Neyland issues: brags about the 100,000+ don’t mean diddly. A lot of elites have that. A full stadium of 85-90k with good seating instead of tiny benches will create an even better experience that justifies the current ticket prices plus extorted “donation”. Winning then drives higher ticket prices and donations. The opponents are the comforts of TV at home/sports bar as well as cost versus perceived benefit. Bad football for a decade kills the sales pitch for the later.

I doubt I will be able to watch the florida game this year, I hate them so much and its just been too painful. It's probably in the best interest of my health to skip it.

I hate the UF game. Hate everything about it. I hate watching the Vols play them more than I hate that team. Because outside of the second half in 2016, they always benefit from some inexplicable huge momentum plays or bad decisions on Tennessee's part or our worst performance of the year that just completely turn the tide.

2011: Hunter tears his ACL on his first catch
2012: Trey Burton goes 80 yards
2013: Peterman throws for -17 yards and 8 INTs
2014: Treon Harris Josh Dobbs'd us while the real Josh Dobbs sat on the bench
2015: Will Grier's steroid arm crushed our hopes and dreams
2017: Hail Mary loss
2018: UF didn't play that well but we played atrociously bad and made them look like the Patriots

Not to mention all the ridiculous losses throughout the 2000s and 90s.

We wont beat Florida (in the swamp) this year. But we MUST beat BYU and I think we will. If we lose that one, we are just fighting for a bowl appearance the rest of the way and the wheels could come off early. That's the game I'm circling.

Hate away
