Burns enters transfer portal

It looks like Barnes is focused on 2020-21. Especially if Gaines and Pember take redshirts in 2019-20.

It might make sense to redshirt one or both NEXT year instead since there might be far less playing time to spread around.

If Plavsic can’t get a waiver, we can’t afford to redshirt anyone. We will have 10 scholarship players available.

I agree, especially Pember but with the Burns news he’s most likely going to have to play.

We had two open scholarships going into 2018 offseason and won’t get a minute of production from that year recruiting wise.

Even if you think Barnes is the greatest coach ever, that’s an abject failure.

Having such an unbalanced roster from the beginning has a lot to do with it. Kids are less likely to sign when the previous couple of classes are stuffed with 4 and 5 year players and no ones-and-dones. Playing time would be hard to earn. Also, it takes years to develop the relationships. Recruits aren't going to be beating down the door of programs with their 3rd coach in 3 years and having had missed the NCAAT 3 straight years. Plus throw in the fake narrative that the TN program is a bunch of racist rednecks that ran the black coach out of town.

We've improved each year. Regressing for a season isn't unusual, no matter how much the coach is paid.

I prefer that our coach takes the long view with recruiting instead of worrying if a particular class doesn't appear impressive as a stand alone. I think that the 2019 and 2020 classes look great. Plus Plavsic and Bailey have been added to address the gap. For all we know there are more transfers being targeted to fill current and future roles.

All of the negativity is bizarre considering TN has just come off of it's winningest back-to-back seasons IN HISTORY. Being concerned is one thing. Constantly bashing is idiotic.

But par for the course with many in this fanbase.

That’s what happens when you underachieved in postseason play for two straight years, whether fair or not. You have the winningest two year stretch and have little to show for it and you don’t quite get the benefit of the doubt.

We overachieved in 2018.

Regular season? Yes

Being a 3 seed in the tournament and losing to an 11 seed in the second round (yes I know KA was hurt) is underachieving
When your picked 13th in your conference and no one expects you to even sniff the tournament then every tournament game you play is overachieving.

I think you could see UT go with a 3 guard lineup at times next season and this gives UT an extra scholarship for the 2020 class.

Or expectations are unreasonable. 2018 was just the 15th round of 32 ever and it came after missing the NCAAT for straight 3 years.

How about everyone quit griping and we go back to winning 10 or 11 games a year and be bottom feeders then maybe you can appreciate what is happening in Knoxville. I remember listening to a handheld Walkman to even get to know what was happening. No cable TV games. No repeats. I would record the games on my cassette player so I could relive them. Bunch of spoiled fans right now complaining because we are swimming in different waters. I'm loving all the attention basketball is getting. Good or bad. It's at least relevant.

This scenario right here is a given and I think it will be all the time not just at times. James running point, Turner and Bowden out wide. Fulkerson will start at the 4 and Barnes will play around with the 5 spot until he gets the best fit in there. Plavsic maybe, but could be Kent. The other option is Pons at the 4 and Fulky at the 5.
