You have to remember that Barack Obama was a virtual unknown in 2004. Andy Martin is still a virtual unknown today. The media's outrage began after Obama had attained nationwide fame, which I think is natural. Donald Trump was the first major candidate to promote the theory that Barack Obama was born outside of the United States and that he was using a fake birth certificate. Trump even went as far as to claim that he would be able to prove it. He claimed to have sent investigators to Hawaii to gather evidence in support of his theory and then claimed that their efforts were bearing fruit. He said that he would hold a press conference detailing what his investigators had found. He never did.

The media's outrage with Trump was a result of: Obama's fame, Trump's fame and the fact that Trump was being very aggressive with his claims and making bold promises that he would be able to prove his theory. He was full of crap the whole time.

Actually the black community cannibalizes their own. Like I said earlier, it's internalized racism. But yes, Dems tend to attack black Republicans as "Uncle Toms".

There is some truth to this... and like I said earlier, it would not surprise me to see some resentment from the black community toward Kamala Harris because she married a rich, white man. I fully expect that some of them will call her a "sell-out".

No idea what Don Lemon's motivation truly was, but in the eyes of some in the black community, there is a hierarchy based on things as silly as skin darkness or hair or origin. It's actually sad, but it is also real.

I meant in the 2008 Dem primaries. He wasn't an unknown when it came down to between him and Hillary. It didn't become an outrage until elements on the right picked it up.

Donald was actually a Johnny-come-lately to birtherism himself. I first started to hear about it in 2007-08 when he was running the first time, then elements in the Tea Party started really running with after he became President. The media picked up on it and used that to paint the entire movement (or any disagreement with Obama himself) as being rooted in birtherism and a form of racism. To my knowledge, Trump didn't pick up birtherism until 2011. Then Trump himself finally gave up on it in 2016 before the election.

It wasn't used by his opponent in the 2008 Democratic Primaries... therefore, no outrage. The biggest source of outrage against Trump (and it was well-earned) was that he was making promises in 2011 that he never delivered. He claimed to be gathering proof... and that was obviously a lie.

In the election, he supported McCain. But that was after Hillary lost the primary to Obama. He originally supported Hillary.

It was absolutely used by supporters of hers, and you know if Clinton was a conservative the media would remind her day and night that her supporters were doing this, she should tell them to stop it, her denials and her distancing herself isn't strong enough, etc. They knew that was a bad look for Dems, so they just didn't really bring it up. It wasn't a big deal until the Tea Party took it up after the 2008 election, and then they could easily dismiss the Tea Party's grievances as being rooted in racism.

In 2008, Donald Trump supported Hillary until she lost to Obama. Then he endorsed McCain in the election.

I can't say that is was a bad look for Dems because I don't remember the birther-ism issue coming up in 2008. It could have been used by some of her fringe supporters but it never attained a high profile because she never talked about it. It first gained major notoriety because Trump not only talked about it on television but he also claimed to be collecting evidence to support the theory that Obama wasn't born in the United States. He told us he would be holding a press conference and show us what his team of investigators who supposedly, "can't believe what they are finding" in Hawaii had come up with. He was lying. He never had any proof and I highly doubt that there ever even was a team of investigators dispatched to Hawaii. That was a shameful display by Trump... it was incredibly dishonest.
