There we go. Just wanted to hear you say it instead of the neutered version you presented. I can't remember you expressing that opinion 6 months ago. It seems like the loss to Purdue and the butthurt you suffered over the UCLA ordeal have advanced that opinion, or at the very least, publicized it.
He’s a Lions fan. Don’t force him to be bound by reality. 😉

I’ve been pretty adamant since the day Barnes was hired I expected little tournament success. Pretty sure I said the day he was hired (@calban can confirm) that I hated the hire because of the lack of upside for championships. Even if there wasn’t any UCLA interest I’d be saying it cause Barnes can’t get it done in the tournament. He proved it this year.

He’s not a tournament coach. He’s this generation’s Gene Keady. He’s done better than I thought (although he’s gonna feel heat from the fan base, not the AD, if UT doesn’t make the tourney this year )Nothing wrong with that, but it’s just what it is.

Exactly.

I can’t explain why but I have a really good feeling that Kim English could be something special as a coach and could be our next coach in a few years
He's a program BUILDER. Said it when we hired him. Unless he suddenly changes how he coaches on game day he'll continue to have a losing record against ranked teams and get out coached in the tourney. But he'll leave you with a solid program in the end.

Yeah and he’s done a good job. Last year was overall a disappointment. If he can get this team without Blackshear in the tourney this year I’ll be happy.

With the bad taste in the fanbases mouth over the UCLA deal [including mine] Rick's sack is gonna be near the flame if we struggle like I expect we will.

The AD will fully support him but if he misses the tournament the fan base will be loud. A lot of the good he built up the last two years is gone. 2/5 tournaments isn’t good.

Lol y'all are acting like these guys are scrubs. Just because they're unknown doesn't mean they suck. Good Lord.
On that list of people that guy puts out there, I see:

4-star prospect
4-star prospect
PF who has been in the program 3 years and improved last year
promising athleticism and defense (still needs quite a bit of development)
redshirt possibility
4-star prospect and 7-footer
redshirt possibility
borderline 4-star prospect with good shooting but bad defense
biggest question mark, IMO

You also have two senior guards with a ton of talent to go with some solid pieces there. I'm not expecting a Sweet 16 or an amazing season, but it's not going to be a 15, 16, or 17 win season like some are freaking out about. My goodness.

I, too, wasn't thrilled with the hire at the time. I just thought it was safe, but given the shape of our program, I realized it was what we needed to stabilize the program. So in that sense, I understood it. He has far surpassed my expectations.

yeah, I'm not down on him but watching him 4 years you just have to realize what he is and isn't. Hoping he pulls one of his Historical Rabbits out da Hat this season.

No it won’t. His contract is fully guaranteed until the end of the 2022 season. They aren’t cutting a $20 million buyout check to a basketball coach.

For people trashing Barnes right now, stop and appreciate the job he has done that you are disappointed Tennessee may not be in the National Championship hunt in the next couple of years.

It was a dumpster fire only a couple of years ago.

I had my doubts, but the man has done his job. He took Tennessee out of the abyss and has made them a relevant program again.
