@vol4092 was the one saying Gilbert was saying TE but in his defense, he was using Gilbert’s quotes to him. I’m the one who said he was being recruited as a WR. He said today he doesn’t want to block. TN doing a good job with that pitch.

I’ll still say if he was open to being DE full time, he might be the #1 player in this class.

I honestly had thought we would miss on both, but if our coaches somehow manage to pull Washington and Gilbert....OMG

You think at 6’7.5” he would still be able to get leverage?

Last time I checked DE make a lot more $$ than WR or TE.

Yes, I was the one that said. I went back and listened to the recording and what I said was what he said but my question probably could have been worded better considering that we rushed the interview in between games. I think he took it as more of was he set on being a tight end and not so much of the usage in a system. Because like I mentioned then he is going to get flexed regardless. He is just too good. I agree on the defensive end comment as well

I am by no means an expert and I have only watched Marietta a couple times on the internet but Gilbert did not impress near as much on D as on Offense. It could have just been the small sample size I saw, but I barely noticed him on defense and he was making a play on offense every 3 passes.

I was impressed I’ll be even more impressed when DWA is utilized more this year thanks to Chaney. You have a massive tight end who can move and barely utilized him last year. Just hope DWAs blocking improves because it was crap last year

Agreed. DWA also has to improve his hands. He let a few too many hit him in the chest. JG does tend to tattoo guys though.

Yeah sometimes there is no touch. But maybe with an improved OL he will be able to relax and get the ball there with just the right amount.

DWA still like you said missed some last year that he shouldn’t of, and like my HS coach once told me while catching passes from my QB who could throw a baseball 96 - 98mph and ended up playing in the MLB.... doesn’t matter how fast he throws the ball if it hits your hands you better catch it or you aren’t going to be playing for me....

Do you happen to remember which games you got to see? I’ll share what a buddy at McEachern said. Marietta is loaded, their defense is loaded with guys littered across the field with Ojulari, Ellington, Torrence, etc and the list goes on and on. He said when AG was in (on D) they tried to scheme around him or make sure he was doubled. That’s high praise when you have BJ on the other side and plenty of playmakers behind him as well. Agree he needs to work on his hands (most do) but he is a very talented young man.

I think it was the first game of last season against Kell (not sure because I'm not from georgia just watching because of Ramel). Olujari did look better but it could have been the blocking schemes.
