Rivalry week is great to close the season. Most teams have a trophy for it as well, however the Vols and Vandy game doesn't. We should start something like this. It can only improve us as a team to wanna get that trophy, granted I know the history has us destroying Vandy for decades on in. But a trophy nonetheless is needed.

The Nashville Commode Doors want to think it is a rivalry. It is not. This is the 3rd or 4th thread attempting to make them relevant. They are not. It is akin to Mercer wanting to be the UGA rivalry. Let the commode doors wallow in their sewer of success against failures of UT coaches. Soon the sewer will just be a sewer.

When we begin beating them again at Neyland, give them a handful of turf from the field. When we begin beating them at their home again, give them a framed bloody bandage or a tin model of a broken anchor. Just a reminder of who and what they are, you know.

It used to not be a rivalry for us but it was for Vandy because they couldn’t beat us....it was one-sided and we lost to them. Well, now things have changed, they’ve won 5-7 and it’s definitely a rivalry now, since a benchmark this year is whether or not we can finally beat them again.

Somehow I don't see Pruitt thinking Candy is a rivalry, no matter how we have fared against them recently. Pruitt is thinking about Saban, Richt and Mullen not Mason.
Vandy will become collateral again once JP does the job I expect him to do. They need to be a tune up game for the SECCG. The only way that can happen is for us to get better. Vandy is still Vandy. I expect us to return to playing complete games.

Candy, vandie, commode-doors...it's all the same.

If you look at history, Tennessee has dominated vandy in football. But there have been stretches where vandy has been the better football team. We are currently in one of those stretches (hopefully over this year though)

You say Vandy is not a rival yet you call them names and believe they are not relevant. To me, you sound like a fan talking about a rival.

If you live in Nashvegas, Vandie is a rivalry. Even when we were beating them regularly, it's a rivalry no matter what any of you say. George Cafego and legions of Vols thought it was a rivalry, even after we started beating them regularly. Any of you who have ever been in their little stadium after a Commode-door win over the Vols totally understands that it is a rivalry. If you don't get that, then UT-bammer is no longer a rivalry either. Get your heads out of your a----.

There were twin sisters who used to live near me in Nashville who were well-known Tennessee fans -- featured in several newspaper and magazine articles. One's house had a real, out of the ground flagpole that flew NOT the US flag but only the official UT flag (with the university seal on it). Soon after the state allowed personalized license plates, one of them got a vanity plate saying "VU-PU." I never failed to be amused when I'd see it.

Looking at Vandy from a distance that I can watch their progress from day to day better than I can UT, I think those of us who say Vandy is the same Vandy better look a little closer. I have watched the city of Nashville offer many things to help entice a you man (more than Knoxville), Vandy's has hit on some good coaching and recruiting of late. Things are looking up for them whether we like it or not. For some reason I think we better get ready for a knock down drag out game for years to come.

IMO, giving this game a trophy is an attempt to make the game a big deal.

Making this game a big deal (A) diminishes Tennessee and (B) gives Vanderbilt stature.

Personally, I do not want to reward my team for beating Vanderbilt. That's not what Tennessee is in business for.

Vandy has had our # for the past little bit(Who hasn’t?), but looking back at their past records they kind of are the same ole Vandy. We just haven’t been doing our part when it comes to competing. We have struggled to play complete games for as long as they have been winning against us here lately. When that games decides who will make a bowl that means they are the same ole Vandy and we are still in the ditch with them. Other than a couple of legit QBs and having players that value a win over us, they are similar to the past teams that we handled year in and year out.

It’s unfortunate that too many of our players don’t consider a win over Vandy as important as it really is. Come on, it’s Vandy. It’s not about the glory of beating them, but more about the embarrassment of losing to them.

Like it or not to lose to them is a bigger deal than to beat them.

Maybe the 2019 class can be the 1st in a while to not ever lose to them. On that 20 something year run there were plenty of classes that never lost to them. I expect to have many more.
