Sorry for your loss Cat.
Thanks. Funeral was a few days ago. My grandfather was very well known here. One of the cool things about small towns is how police officers shut down main roads and also give police escorts to the church. It was incredible to see the respect by the entire community. Almost surreal and something I'll never forget.

Is that true? That’s the first I’ve heard of Bumphus being back on offense. Not that I dedicate a lot of time tracking Bumphuses roster moves but still....

Figured they were done with the experimenting and they had him moved to the DL.

We've got basically the same schedule except AL instead of Clemson.

They have AL plus Clemson. They also have Texas A&M whereas we have Miss State. Their schedule is one of the worst I’ve seen. In October they play Florida and Georgia in back-to-back weeks and then head up to Knoxville. I’m certain their fans see the game against us as winnable but it sits in a bad spot on their schedule. We will be coming off a 59-14 road loss to our “rival” AL but they will have been pounded pretty hard too...

I took a shot at measuring ESPN’s Preseason FPI prediction accuracy for the SEC regular season schedule from last year. The formula used is: 1-(Abs(diff/predicted)). Anyway, there are 56 conference games in the regular season with 56 winners and 56 losers (as long as UF doesn’t cancel a game because the wind is blowing within 500 miles of Gainesville). As a conference we also have 56 OOC games scheduled every year. Last year the conference went 50-6 in OOC games in the regular season. We lost to WVU, A&M and SC lost to Clemson, VU lost to Notre Dame, and Arkansas in addition to losing all their conference games also lost to Colorado State and the Mean Green of North Texas.

Would y’all be ok with 6-6 this fall?

I say hell naw

We haven’t had a winning season since 2016. 6 wins is the type of incremental improvement you’ll likely see in a rebuild like this. I think there’s an outside chance for 7 wins but we need to get really lucky.

I think Pruitt has to be an elite coach for us to win 9 but there’s not much indication of that so far.

This lines up with some stuff I think I stumbled across last year.

Towards the upper end of wins, the predictions are close to accurate partially because the totals are capped (you can’t get more than 100% of wins). However, as you drop down, there’s more of a difference between predicted/observed because if the bottom falls out, and there’s just more room to fall. If the SEC had teams that FPI predicted would only win 2 or 3 games, we’d see the accuracy of the FPI pick up because of the lower bound (you can’t go below zero).

If we win 6 this year Pruitt isn’t going to get it done here. 6 wins is a huge disappointment
I think that is jumping to conclusions a little bit. It all comes down to win and losses, but we could go 6-6 and the overall health of the program be a step forward. If we key injuries and lock down a good recruiting class 6-6 wouldnt be the worst thing in the world as long as the games were competitive.

Would it be good? No. But it wouldn't be enough to say Pruitt wont be succesful here so let's not jump ahead of ourself and say Pruitt wont be succesful with 6-6 record in year 2.

Exactly. Last two times the Vols took the field we were embarrassed. By Vandy and Mizzou no less. We have to start competing in every game before we turn our nose up to a bowl game

6 wins will be a disappointment. Pruitt has upgraded the roster and Fitz has upgraded the S&C program. Chaney will squeeze the most out of JG and help the Oline in the process. Second year in Pruitt's defense with some decent pieces . This will be a team nobody wants to play. I like the schedule as well.

Over time teams take on the attitudes of their HC and effective assistants. I doubt this roster is thinking 6-6. If injuries are even reasonable I expect they will be overachievers. 8-4 type stuff

But in two months I will be at 15-0. It is what it is when your orange blooded.

So happy to see Tony get more money, I am hopeful the fanbase starts showing up more for baseball games if he continues to put out a good product. People act like it can't happen, but the softball team is a hot ticket, seems possible baseball could be too if they are winning 40 games a season.

Hope we land Blackshear, would be a great 1 year get to help offset losing Grant & Kyle until some of the younger guys are ready to go.

7-5. 6-6 would be disappointing, but not an indictment....unless the "how" we arrive at that record looks like it is. picking a # right now doesn't mean a whole lot. we do this every year and everyone draws lines in the sand on the "record", and hten you see it happen, how it happens and.........opinions change. the same will happen this year.

it's year 2. we return a lot of kids from the last two years, we've added some real talent in this freshmen class. year 2 in s&c, upgrades at DC, OC..........it's fair to expect improvement, and a 2 game swing over last year, would be a good floor to work from.

and the schedule is a little lighter than it has been the last two years.

can't have the devestating injuries. and we have to be better on both lines of scrimmage. we don't have to be world beaters. we just have to be better than we have been. do that and you're probably going to be competitive in 10 or 11 of the games on the schedule. and we should win more than we lose. 2nd half of the season is where it's at.
