The Kerry Blackshear Thread

Here is something to think about: Cal is used to talking to prima Donna 17-18 year olds, pandering and spewing bs while throwing ca$h. Barnes on the other hand can talk to a mature 22yo Blackshear honestly, candidly as man! Don’t underestimate Barnes, Williams and Schofield in this entire equation.

Lol

Don't have time to listen to this, but seems odd that someone who wants to go to the NBA but isn't quite good enough doesn't care about development.

Was actually just listening to this, basically saying that by Year 4 there’s only so much development to be had...it would be far down the list of biggest factors, which is understandable. Fit and ability to compete at the top of CBB are much bigger things.

I don't agree.
Well it’s one of the big arguments against Grant coming back...people don’t feel he can really prove much else to scouts and it will just add another year to his clock. You can develop in the NBA where you don’t have to juggle school as well, I definitely think development is probably further down his list than other things.

I think it depends on the player/situation. If he doesn’t think he can develop any more then why not go start earning a paycheck?

It’s why he visited them...of all the schools pursuing him they are in the best shape/most likely to make the deepest NCAAT run, which is a big deal to him.
I'm trying not to sound biased, but I just don't see how UK's roster is in better shape than ours with him? A starting lineup of...

Turner/Bowden/James/KB/Kent or Plavsic seems better than Hagans/Maxey/Whitney/KB/Montgomery or Richards

Why?

To me Cals biggest sales pitch is to say “look what my track record is with one and done guys in their development”
If he doesn't care about development and only wants to be on the best team where he can play, then UK seems like the easy choice.

Maybe he wanted a chance at a winning CBB season?

Not sure where I read it but it was mentioned he had the slowest times in the NBA combine for bigs in many of the running drills, that is something Tennessee keyed on and that strength coach GM talked a lot about on his visit as something they would be working on.

Well for simplicity sake without Blackshear UK is getting a ton of Top 10 Love by both media people and analytics, Tennessee most definitely is not.

I don’t agree. If we get him we have a very experienced deep roster. We will be better than the one and dones at Kentucky
I definitely think that’s part of the pitch Tennessee made...he doesn’t change Kentucky’s projections much, but he does Tennessee’s and with him they are at least arguably close.

Completely agree. He doesn’t move the needle much for the cats. They will likely fall short of expectations with or without him but those expectations are certainly high.

We offer more of an opportunity to move the needle of expectations.
