I understand they have to make the contracts work...and the trade details, but thanks. Conley has an albatross contract so Utah is getting the short end of that stick. Korver, Crowder and Allen have contracts that are soon to expire...so Memphis got ANOTHER bonus in addition to the two first rounders. This was a robbery!

According to spotrac:
Mike Conley has a 5 year 152m deal that expires in 2021 and is 140m guaranteed. These next 2 years of that contract have a 32.5 & 34.5 cap hit

Jae Crowder has a 5 year 35m deal that expires in 2020, cap hit 7.8m in 2020
Kyle Korver has a 3 year 22m deal that expires in 2020, cap hit 7.5m in 2020
Grayson Allen has a 2 year 4.5m deal that expires in 2022, cap hit 2.4m in 2020, 2.5m in 2021, 4m in 2022
Total cap hit for 2020 - 17.7m

Yeah I guess Utah is hoping to push to make a finals before Conley's contract expires. Great trade for Memphis.

Also it appears that Memphis got 1st picks in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, & 2 2nd round picks in 2025...the 2020-2024 1st have protections though.

WOW great move by Memphis!

Word is that Memphis is listing to offers for the 23rd this year. Hope they keep it with Morant, Jackson, and now Allen. That's a good core young group. Might as well put one more young guy in the mix and let them learn to play together. Sadly grit and grind days are over..

I don't think they got that many picks in the Conley trade.

This isn’t possible. Against NBA rules

Utah is in "win now" mode. Mitchell is still on his rookie deal, and Ingles is 31 years old. With Golden State being down 2 stars, some west teams will take a chance on a rental.

Jackson and Morant for sure could do some damage. Allen I don't know if he's a "core" guy or not, but he's a great role player off the bench if nothing else. They could use some more shooting not sure if that's best to go after in the draft or free agency. Wonder if they'll try for Leonard?

That's what spotrac had listed, but most picks are conditional past 2020 I believe so I have no clue honestly.

NBA Transactions
LMAO no.

I guess that website lists each possible pick conveyance as a separate thing or something. I didn't look at it.

The 2020 pick is like top 15 protected, then it becomes a 2021 pick.
That 2021 pick would be like top 6 protected, then becomes 2022.
2022 is top 3 protected.
2023 is top 1 protected.
Etc.

If the pick doesn't convey by 2024, it becomes two 2nd round picks in 2025.

Something along those lines.

What do you know that we're missing? Looks like New Orleans got a 2019, a 2021 (top 8 protected) 2022 (unprotected) and 2024 first round pick...
No, the 2021 pick is protected. If it doesn't convey then it becomes a 2022 pick that's unprotected. None of those 1st-round picks are in consecutive years. I think he's right. I just never knew that, because I haven't followed NBA free-agency closely.

Dang I never looked at the years. So they basically traded 1sts in alternate years for the next 5 years I guess.

Yeah and then threw in some trade picks.

If I remember correctly they got the 2019, 2021, and 2024. Plus the option to swap 1sts in 2023. It’s weird how they work then now around that rule.

They got one in 2019, the one in 2021 is protected so if it's top 8 then they don't get it and it becomes a 2022 unprotected pick. Then just in case that happens they had to skip 2023 and go straight to 2024.

They got this years first round pick. The other pick has protections on it all the way to 2025. If all the protections are used it will convert to 2 second round picks. So basically they got this years 1st rounder and another possible future 1st round pick but they may never get that and instead just get 2 second round picks in 2025.

Edit: Here are the specifics on the protections. Basically you want Utah to get in the 8-14 slot next year. If not you root for them to get that in 2021. If that still hasn't happened then 2022 you just need them not to get in the top 6. And so on.

Memphis acquires
Grayson Allen ($2,429,400)Kyle Korver ($7,500,000)Jae Crowder ($7,815,533)
&
2020 1st round pick (Top-7 protected and protected 15-30 (conveys 8-14), or 2021 same protections as 2020 , or 2022 Top-6 protected, or 2023 Top-3 protected, or 2024 Top-1 protected, or 2025 - converts to two seconds)
&
2019 1st round pick (#23 , )

Weird...

I think Utah was game since Rubio is a UFA. I guess they got an upgrade at PG in Conley...hard to say considering he's older and double the cost Rubio was on the cap.

So if Utah gets the 8-14th pick in 2020 then it would go to Memphis, based on the way I'm reading this mess.

Which would mean Utah gave up 2 first round picks in consecutive years. Chances are unlikely next year's pick for them will be top 20 though. So confusing.

They have Mitchell on his rookie deal for 2 more years (I think). They can spend some money on others.
