2020 Presidential Race

Oh, my God... that is not serving your country in the military. I can't believe you found that worthy of mentioning... and unlike Obama, Trump actively avoided service with his deferments during a time of war (including one for the very shady claim of bone spurs).
Medical shaming? Its 2019 bro. Believe all accusations right?

If he wins again, I just think that is about the saddest commentary on the intellectual status of this country. It will reaffirm every negative stereotype of Americans you can imagine. Gluttonous, selfish, dishonest, braggart, cheap, always working a con, untrustworthy, unjustifiably arrogant and stubborn, jingoistic, and uneducated.

Not just because he is all those things, but because he tricks millions of gullible people into voting for him.

You still don't get it. There are millions of people who will fight to keep this country from turning socialist/communist. These same people will not tolerate anyone entering this country illegally. As long as the Dems keep promising fundamental change on these issues they will not win a presidential election. The candidate is of little significance.

Imagine thinking that’s what’s happening at Trump rallies.

Do you honestly believe that there were many people in that Orlando rally last night who could accurately explain what socialism even is? ... much less anyone who realizes that the United States is a mixture of socialism and capitalism, and that pure capitalism would not have a better chance of working than pure socialism? There has never been a pure capitalist society.

Nobody, not even Bernie, is advocating for pure socialism. Trump is using "socialism" as a trigger word to his base right now because most of them are not educated enough to understand what the hell it is.

Pure socialism, is communism. Are you afraid to use that term or do you not know what it is?

When I have time to deliver a more detailed post I will... but this is not accurate. For one, as a system of government, communism tends to center on a one-party state that bans most forms of political dissent. As an ideology, communism makes fewer concessions to market capitalism and electoral democracy than do most forms of socialism.

Second post today (one by LG) where the Trump supporters at the Rally specifically and the Republican voters generally are castigated as uneducated.
Are you guys becoming more comfortable being vocal with you disdain for the intelligence of R voters?

Any thoughts on where we will get the money to expand the existing and fund new social programs under democratic socialism?
Social democracy, and gee, how will the richest country of all time figure out how to get the money for cheaper health care?

“When I’m president, if God willing I am, we’re going to reverse those Trump tax cuts,” Biden said.

“Yes, we have to raise individual tax rates substantially higher than they are today, because almost all of the new income is going to the top 1 percent,” the Vermont Independent said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

It going to get the money by going against the very principals that made it the richest country in the world? You know it's not a permanent status. The money comes from the same place it always has. Us, the working people. Always has, always will.

They are either uneducated or there is some serious cognitive dissonance going on. There is no other way to describe Trump's continued bailout of the farming industry, to help mitigate the damage of his tariff war (although, that only means that the American people are paying for his tariff war twice), than as a form of "socialism". However, if you were to ask the average Trump supporter, including those who are posting to this thread and railing against the evils of socialism, if they were aware of this... you would mostly find that they are completely oblivious to the Trump $16 billion bailout of the farming industry last month. That doesn't necessarily make them uneducated but it does make them willfully ignorant. It is one or the other.

Other than the first sentence, you’re not wrong.

$16 billion is drop in bucket vs $3.2 trillion for healthcare

We are wealthy, yes. But acknowledgment of that fact doesn't make the money available for expanded and/or new social programs. Yes?
Our health care is incredibly expensive. Really fixing the system should save us money. We have to be big boys and stand up to insurance companies, though. The military budget has an enormous amount of bloat that does nothing to advance our interests or make us safer. And yes, taxes would increase.
