2020 Presidential Race

And thus he is part of the problem. I share no affiliation with either party. They all suck. And this is the single biggest item they all suck on. SS is self funded, for now. Doesnt need to be touched. Most of the rest comes out of the general tax funds. Anything that does needs to be looked at.

The numbers I ran to make things work is cutting everything by 20% and raising taxes by 10%. Just so both sides are somewhat happy.
Yes, but they use SS money for whatever they want. Plus, the odds of politicians cutting anything is zilch. They call cutting an increase of 3 % to an increase of 2.5% a cut. An actual cut of 20% is a pipedream. Not going to happen.

I think that's a fair way to look at it.

It also bothers me that no one steps up to claim ownership. Which allows things to slip as in your analogy. I dont really cared who messed it up. I just want someone to fix it.

It's going to take a whole different mindset and skill set to fix things. The current and projected crop of politicians sure don't have what it takes to fix anything other than their own financial standing. A further swing to the left will only make it worse, and that's the general trajectory.

Mayor Pete and his husband have about 100 grand in student loans, I believe. He would be good. Maybe he can get Stacey Abrams as a running mate. I believe she is deeper in debt.

Absolutely. I've said as much in other posts. No one claims ownership because it's easy for them to kick the can to a later date when they're not in office. Deficit spending? Someone else's problem. Debt? Someone else's problem. Dumb bill that doesn't do what is intended and negatively impacts citizens? Someone else's problem. And for the most part, the politicians being elected aren't even affected by their stupidity.

Our political system today offers little more than a series of short term fixes. Nobody is working on a long term plan for the future of the US because nobody can agree on a direction.

I think to a large part having parties does this. I think if candidates didnt have a letter beside their name we would be a lot more likely to hold them accountable.

We are too attached to the party associations.

Which one of our resident lefties who compared the Koch brothers to the devil himself is going to step up and condemn them for giving money to Democrats in order to push amnesty and open borders?

The Koch brother boogeyman was epic. Ask @lawgator1 about it.

Before Trump...located somewhere between Dick Cheney and Ted Cruz...the Koch Brothers we’re indeed the most evil people alive.

The problem with the Koch brothers -- or any major political benefactor -- isn't that they exist or donate money. Its when they do so through means which are hidden from view or which crush other points of view by sheer dollar weight. PACS and super-PACS that support a candidate without "officially" being linked to the candidate so no one knows how much is being spent, or from who, is where I think a lot of people have a problem. And that is true of Dems, as well. Same with the fact that those in power already, and with so much money at their disposal, can drown out others.

didn't the passage of McCain-Feingold open the doors to the PAC/SuperPAC phenomenon?

I was speaking more about how they were used as the personalization of evil in politics. The Democrats always personalize their attacks and demonize a specific target. The Koch brothers had their time in the barrel. Somewhere in between Dick Cheney and Ted Cruz, I believe.

Do you remember what time period when a lot of your posts were blaming the Koch brothers for the ills of the world?

And the worst thing is the fool sent them money so they could build delivery systems. It may have started out as Iran's money, but after the new regime took over and kept our embassy and held our people captive, they forfeited any right to that money.
