At least 12 deaths and several injuries at Virginia Beach municipal complex, police say; shooter also dead: reports

This country needs to focus on mental health. A person who is so fed up with something going on at his job that he chooses to murder as many people as he can is clearly not mentally right. That's not something sane people decide to do. Thats the root issue. For some reason in this country it's pretty common for people to go insane and murder people.

The worst thing, if indeed he used a suppressor, is the gun grabbing left will come out and say "SEE?!?!?!?! I told you so!" in regards to them being on the NFA list as a controlled item. Regardless of how few times they've been used in crimes, they will scream and rant about the item and claim it's the worst thing since the invention of the club in regards to a murder weapon.

This is a tiny bit dated ('17) but

The ATF confirmed that silencers are rarely used in crimes despite their explosion in popularity. The agency has only recommended prosecutions for 44 silencer-related crimes per year over the past decade. That means roughly .003 percent of silencers are used in crimes each year.

Note the use of the word "crimes". This could include anything, including deer poaching.

The democrats say thoughts and prayers are useless, what are they proposing to stop these acts? The guy was legal to own a gun, bought it via a background check, it wasn’t a scary assault rifle, he walked into a gun free zone and shot people. What’s their law that would have prevented this?

Thoughts and prayers are still useless, laws aside. It's a nice gesture, but that is all it is.

Yeah, I don't get why silencers are such a big deal. It doesn't make any sense to me. So what if somebody wants to use them.

I wonder how many of those 44 crimes were for registration issues?

According to @lawgator1 they should be strictly controlled because criminals will use them to murder people silently.

Of course, he gets his "facts" straight from Hollywood, so...

I would postulate the very generic use of the word "crime" is encompassing enough that any little thing, including registration/possession issues, means actual violent use is a tiny piece of an already tiny legal issue. The other part of this is that if there were any real laundry list to hang out involving cans the hoplophobes would have it plastered everywhere already.

I would have to go back to see what the discussion of "silencers" might have been. I don't think it was significant since my understanding is that silencer's do not increase the lethality of a weapon, or make it capable of firing more rapidly, which has been my main concern with altered firearms.

Generally speaking, however, yes, I do think access to firearms is too lax in this country. How to address that in the most effective manner without giving the gun-toters a heart attack I don't know.

Jesus are you serious? I can walk in to a mall with a silenced weapon and do a lot more damage than a weapon without. If the person is trained(most are not) they could cherry pick victims to where you wouldn’t know what was happening for at least a minute.

The problem with making guns harder to obtain is that it only pertains to people that obey the law. Criminals are still going to get their guns anyway they can the law be damned.

I understand that but studies show that the majority of guns used in crimes were either stolen by the person using them to commit a crime, or were stolen by someone else (or at least obtained illegally) and then sold on the black market to end up in a criminal's hands. Fact is, the majority of guns used to commit crimes started out at some point as legally owned. The problem now is that there are so many in the stream of illegal commerce that you present a persuasive argument when you say law abiding people may need to go get a gun to protect themselves from people illegally possessing a gun.

And of course a lot of them end up stolen or on the black market down the line, too.

Your quote, when I asked why they were on the NFA 1934, was because "it made murder easier to accomplish" or words to that effect. Now, you can take my word for it or go look yourself since I'm just too damn lazy to go searching through the various threads with your gun nonsense.

I think you just made my point.

Trump going to take care of these suppressors like he did bump stocks? Can't let this huge opportunity go to waste

What's up with all of the concern over a suppressor? It's not like they sound like they make them sound in the movies, they're still fairly loud. I have a buddy that lives in the area around Va. Beach and he has a suppressor for one of his guns. He had to get the local police chief to sign off on it before he could buy it.

What is there to take care of? They are already title 2 and require registration, an extensive background check, and a tax stamp. Weak troll attempt pj
It's not trolling. He had shown that an outright ban of certain pieces is on the table and was cheered last time he did it. Just hoping everyone stays consistent in their praise

I take your word for it. And thank you for the additional insult.

Its a problem. The more people legally buy guns, the more guns end up illegally possessed down the line because they are stolen or sold to the black market, causing more law abiding people to go buy guns legally, and on and on.

Let’s make private property theft and illegal gun sales illegal. Problem solved. You’re welcome. 87334C3B-1B8B-4FCC-B782-FE325D589497.jpeg
