Wait. Elijah Young isn't ready to commit. He's still soliciting offers, he's taking all of his visits this summer and he said he's not going to commit until fall. So UT isn't refusing to take his commitment-- this kid's still shopping around. And while he shops around, UT will continue shopping around. A good fit works both ways.

Those are all pretty lofty comps and all way bigger and better than him. I would say Danny woodhead would be a good representation of what he could possibly get to if he reaches his full potential.
that's fair, and i was just naming guys that i knew were on the smallish side of the scale, and thinking about different ways some of those types have fit in various offenses.

it's a given that it's the exception, not the rule..........i think? lol.

The playoffs didn't ruin bowls. Having too many bowls diluted their value. Why should a 500 team earn a bowl?

Correct. The BCS National Championship game ruined bowls, there are way too many bowls, and 8/9 wins should be the cutoff (and FCS games should not count).

I still don’t know how you make non-playoff postseason games meaningful, though.

you can't. in large part, they're only meaningful to the two fan bases squaring off. not sure there's a way to change that.

and they mean something to the coach that loses. lol.

“Tennessee is pretty sneaky these days and made a very quiet trip to Utah last night and offered Utah's Kyle Whittingham a reported $3 to $4 million to go to Tennessee, but this morning Whittingham declined the offer. That salary would triple his current base at $1.2 million, but as Whittingham's daughter said via her twitter account: "money isn't everything."

What I heard about Whittingham was that it was the Haslams who nixed the hire because of concerns about him being a good cultural fit, which is what his daughter appears to be alluding to. I've heard the story told the same way from multiple people in the know.

Personally, I think that Whittingham would have knocked it out of the park here. Certainly would have been an infinitely better hire than the doofus we ended up with.

@HankHill it's not an insult to be asked to camp. it's an interview. not sure why you have such a problem with this philosophy.

and if being asked to camp is taken as an insult by a kid, then that's part of the weeding out process. you're too good to camp? then you'd probably not make it here anyway. doesn't mean he won't make it somewhere....just not here.

and if you're the staff at a particular school, and that's your philosophy, then you either stick to your standards or you don't. and if that costs me a woodi washington along the way, or a this kid, so be it.

You're exactly right about it being an interview and not camping helps the weeding out process. It's all an exercise in mindset. Kids who think they're too good to camp or don't care enough to do so for a particular program, shows entitlement and you don't want that type of kid anyway. You're too good to camp? Cool, good luck elsewhere.

Also, if slot receiver is an option for Young, he needs to build a relationship with Tee. If he's open to being used in multiple ways, including on STs as a return specialist, he probably hops up the board. That said, if Bama or other power programs offer, either his top 5 will grow or some schools are going to be dropped PDQ.

If you are a 5 star RB and you don’t include Bama or Georgia then you just haven’t been paying attention to the NFL.

That’s what draws attention. Sugar Bowl wins mean nothing to kids

My issue with his direct statement is that he discredit texas's win over uga. Texas has been down for a while and now they are showing life (nationally). Texas is in the position, we hope to be in a year or 2. If a prospect said the same thing about us in that situation, volnation would crush him. And if you are good enough, you don't need or have to go to uga, bama, or clemson. It's kinda annoying when I hear kids say i want to go to "abc" University so I can get to the league. Like dude, if you are good enough, it doesn't matter what school you go to (for the most part) if you want to make it to the NFL.

If you had a 16 team playoff I believe that would be 15 games total. I would have a hard time thinking of 15 bowl games that are actually worth keeping. But you could do that, keep the 15 best bowl games as playoff games and get rid of the rest.

Yes sir.
I've been offered jobs that I didn't apply for and they still wanted to do the interview to cover everything.
Like @LA Vol suggested, they may want to look at something he hasn't done in games they've attended.
I can't even grasp how someone finds a camp request odd or offensive. And certainly not lazy.

Only thing that baffles me about Evans kid...his top 5 are Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Ohio State and Oklahoma.

He claims that he sees all 5 as title contenders each year too. I wouldn't disagree with Alabama or Georgia...even Oklahoma. But Ohio State (without Urban) and LSU as title contenders each season?

Playoff appearances so far:

Bama - 5
Clemson - 4
Oklahoma - 3
Ohio State - 2
Georgia - 1

Oregon - 1
FSU - 1
Michigan St. - 1
Notre Dame - 1
Washington - 1

LSU over Texas or even A&M...not sure I get that one.

Bowls have always been meaningless. Not until the BCS was there a bowl game that mattered. Are there too many now? Yes, but that doesn't mean they ever mattered to begin with.

LSU and OSU have been consistently closer to titles and better at getting RBS in the league than any Texas teams.

We have to give him a committable spot. Multiple writers have talked about how unsure the interest level we have in him is. I think if the staff was serious with him then he would’ve been already committed and locked up.
If it's between him and the Memphis kid that's teammates with Omari Thomas, then I say we have a easy choice to make.

A&M just hung 74 on their ace though....as a kid wanting a chance at the NFL I'd look to A&M over LSU to be honest. But you're not wrong. I just think the future is brighter with Jimbo than Coach O.

What's up men (and women!) ?
I have not been able to frequent these hallowed grounds of logic and reasoned debate for quite a while, sadly.

Who do you think are the best chances to commit next? Instate priorities? More JuCos? Any upsets over Bama, UGA, or UF?

Miss hanging out here; hoping to be around a little more...

Pfft.
A&M only has 6 recruits and it's already May. They're probably contemplating Jimbo's buyout at this stage. 😃
