He’s been offered by programs that have been more successful than us for the last decade. He’s also the fastest kid in the state. But keep being a blind sheep.

I’m a blind sheep? Weren’t you the guy who kept screaming last season Keller Chryst was way better than JG?? I’m pretty sure Hank takes are up there with Corso and Kannell takes.

South-Doyle alum here. Watched every game of Elijah Young's career at SD so far. That kid is a legit FBS player, but I've had questions about if he can be a RB in the SEC. I think he's better off being a slot receiver, but it looks like he's determined to play RB, and he's doing his best to achieve that. He's up over 180 pounds now and still ran a flat 4.5 second 40. He has really good vision out of the backfield, and he played well even when South-Doyle played some of the better competition the last few years (Farragut, Central, and the like). SD's offensive line was horrendous last year and he still looked good when he was healthy. He battled an ankle issue and still led the team in rushing in 8 games with about 700 yards. He's also really good on special teams. He should be the team's top weapon on offense this year with Tonquez Ball gone to Tulane, so expect to see more from him as a senior.
agree on the slot WR. he could be utilized out of the backfield as a receiver as well. Christian McAffery or Kamara type back. i'm not convinced he can be an every down back at this level either.....but could he be Wes Welker, or Julian Edleman? depends on the type of offense he's put in and whether or not he's willing to move around on the offensive side of the ball.

and when you're talking "fit", and you have this much conversation about it, that's how kids like this wind up at smaller schools but wind up being steals come draft day.....

Because we pass out offers like hot cakes. Not every player we’ve offered has been here. Also just bc you hold an offer doesn’t make it a commitable one. It’s more just a respect thing. To show a player that you are legit interested
So, do you think the staff is lazy or is there some other reason that they may not have offered?

No. I don’t think they are lazy at all. I just think they hesitant and have a certain “build/profile” that they are looking for in players.

Him being local and as talented and as fast as he is...i think he should’ve already been committed and locked up.

I think the majority of people don’t realize how hard it is to run a 4.50 40 coming out of high school without any next level training. Guys like kamara who never get caught from behind fail to even reach that.

It’s not like devrin young or someone where you question if he is a Good enough athlete to play here. If we have 25 spots or whatever it’s not like we’re turning away 5 stars for him. If I’m going to take a flyer on a local kid... give me the one who runs a 4.5 and wins the state 100.

this makes no sense.

he has an offer. he lives down the street. if he wants to to go TN, he has the access and opportunity to make that happen.....not sure what the big deal is here.

We have to give him a committable spot. Multiple writers have talked about how unsure the interest level we have in him is. I think if the staff was serious with him then he would’ve been already committed and locked up.

That is a lot better take and analysis than your one where you said the staff was lazy. I don't know much about him to be honest, but if he is a legit 4.5, then I agree, we should at least give him an "offer" and make it "committable" if he shows out at the camp.

why take a flier at all when he can come camp and you can find out for yourself?

makes no sense.

why care what they think? he comes and camps, they find out, and if he cuts the mustard, he has a spot. as of now, he doesn't.

this isn't hard.

that's not hank's take on this.

he thinks he should be a take w/out camping. it's a respect thing.

I was saying only letting a kid commit when he has camped with you and worked on in front of you seems lazy to me and could cause you to lose out on a couple people.

OK, I am just going to let this one play out. I will definitely get over to SD for one of his games this Fall, though.

Our staff has seen him play...seen him at the opening. Is running ladder drills and catching passes on Haslam practice fields gonna just be the icing on the cake?

All I’m saying is we have what 6 commits right now? So we have 20 open spots and i don’t think people are exactly knocking the doors down to get here so why not take him if he wants to be here?

so don't evaluate the kid, let him commit, and that's isn't lazier than actually conducting a camp and eavaluating him yourself?

you see the falacy there, right? coaches should just cuddle up and watch hudl and issue offers? lol.

how do you know he wants to be here? if he does, he'll camp. it's not a big deal.

You act like they haven’t seen him play or in other camp settings.... they have that’s my whole point. It’s not like he’s some random kid from Australia who is sending them YouTube videos lol.

You can have meaningful bowls, or a coherent and fair way to determine a champion, but you apparently can’t have both.

After a few years with the playoff system, I’m honestly not sure which I prefer.
I would rather expand the playoffs incorporating the few bowls that are actually worth it and get rid of all the other crap bowls. The playoffs didn't ruin bowls. Having too many bowls diluted their value. Why should a 500 team earn a bowl? Sometimes teams with losing records get in. We don't need 50 bowls.

Not every commit camps at the school he commits to. That doesn’t work that way.
didn't say it did. but most all schools hold multiple camps every year and the offer kids as a result. so will the next school he camps at.

best way for a 5'9" kid that is fast to get his name out there and in front of those big time coaches.

you'd think they'd WANT that...................it would worry me more if they didn't to be honest, and i'd worry even more if our coaching staff continued to take committments from kids that didn't want to do that.

that's, in part, how we got in this mess.

no, i'm acting like this staff wants to get kids in THEIR camp environment and evalulate them for themselves.

that's what i'm saying.

EXACTLY. This is what butch was doing, especially with the legacies

@HankHill it's not an insult to be asked to camp. it's an interview. not sure why you have such a problem with this philosophy.

and if being asked to camp is taken as an insult by a kid, then that's part of the weeding out process. you're too good to camp? then you'd probably not make it here anyway. doesn't mean he won't make it somewhere....just not here.

and if you're the staff at a particular school, and that's your philosophy, then you either stick to your standards or you don't. and if that costs me a woodi washington along the way, or a this kid, so be it.

Those are all pretty lofty comps and all way bigger and better than him. I would say Danny woodhead would be a good representation of what he could possibly get to if he reaches his full potential.
