To me there's 1 simple reason we shouldn't mark this as a gimme - they like their OL and DLs, we do not. Trench concerns are kind of a big deal imo. Their QB is legit too.
I know I was kind of talking their QB up, but I'mma need to see a bit more than 12 TD's against junk opponents (for example, they also threw 19 for 19 against WMU in their bowl..)
They do play Utah in week 1, so we'll see how the young gun does against a team with a pulse.
Saw this posted in the FF, didn't check the validity but if accurate, we're going to need Kirby to be worse than "not that great", we need him to completely suck.
Like I said...good writer. Whether what he SEES translates to what I believe is untested. Current status is its his opinion.Fair enough on Ubben. Though I'll say this - every time writers, who see things in person and review tons of practice film, come out and tell the fans we just aren't very talented atm, they are being brutally honest. 247 was really pounding home how much we lacked talent these past 2 years and most didn't want to believe it...but they were spot on.
Now...I read his mailbag. I really didn't take it as him saying we are completely lacking. He did mention Pruitt has recruited well and to wait and see if he can now develop that talent. He's not saying this is a 5 win team...just that the coaches really have their work cut out for them based on what he's seen. Fair enough. Go earn those millions, staff.
Pruitt needs to do the same thing Kirby did - negate a questionable coaching performance his first year by selling the money he made for countless players at Alabama (and UGA and FSU in Pruitt’s case). There is a reason we all made fun of Kirby’s coaching ability after his first year - he isn’t elite on game day. The fake punt is further evidence of that.Saw this posted in the FF, didn't check the validity but if accurate, we're going to need Kirby to be worse than "not that great", we need him to completely suck.
Too tall ......VN probably.Hopefully part of our new recruiting profile for the lines. Think I found a pic.

His lone full season he had a measly 131 QBR and 7.0 YPA...in that Clemson offense that's not very good. For context: JG had a 141 qbr behind our ol. Lawrence had a 157 qbr in that (basically) same offense as Bryant.
Bryant faced 2 SEC defenses his year of starting - 14 pts vs Auburn and 6 vs Bama. Played A&M last year and did put up 28 that game and 12 YPA. By far his best game.
He also followed up on that crappy coaching last year when they lost to basically every good team they played outside of Florida. Got absolutely dominated by LSU and Texas.Pruitt needs to do the same thing Kirby did - negate a questionable coaching performance his first year by selling the money he made for countless players at Alabama (and UGA and FSU in Pruitt’s case). I’m a little torn on Bryant. I obviously don’t think he’s some great passer by any means but with dooleys offense featuring a lot of 2nd level concepts it will be hard for a team to play man against them and not get torched by him on the ground (if he can prove to hit a decent amount of those passes)Not sure if you're saying Bryant is good or bad here...I'll point out that Bryant is JG with more attempts.
Bryant's Junior season as the starter: 262-398 65.8% 2802 yards, 13 TDs and 8 INTs with 131.7 QBR
JG's Sophmore season as the starter: 153-246 62.2% 1907 yards, 12 TDs and 3 INTs with 141.0 QBR
Biggest advantage Bryant had/has over JG is he's willing to run the ball he accounted for 665 yards rushing that year as the starter on 192 attempts and added 11 TDs. I'm not sure he'll be durable enough to see that many attempts in the SEC though, but we shall see.
Bryant against the SEC as a Junior
@ Auburn: 19-29 65.5% 181 YDs 0 TDs 0 INTs 59 rushing yards and 2 TDs
@ South Carolina: 23-34 67.6% 272 YDs 2 TDs 1 INT 26 rushing yards 0 TDs
Alabama: 18-36 50% 124 0 TDs 2 INTs 19 rushing yards 0 TDs
I work with a big Clemson fan who is an alumni from there and he didn't seem to think Bryant was that good, I think he'll struggle on a less talent Missouri team playing a full SEC schedule.

Yeah good point, not the best competition. Still impressive, but...
Also, the most BYU put up all year vs a P5 or ranked opponen was 28 points. Average was 20. Now...I doubt we were any better, but I would hope this offense can now put up over 20, maybe even 28, vs a decent independent.
19.5 was our average against P5 last season...should go up this year (I hope). Of course the bulk of their P5 was Pac-12 (4 games) and Big Ten (1 game). We played SEC (8) and Big 12 (1).
