The Jarrett Guarantano debate thread...

That oline is not great by any stretch, but they were far worse at run blocking than they were pass protection. Watch that video all the way through, and count the seconds after snap. You are going to be sorely disappointed if you enter into the 2019 season believing that the offensive line is the only thing holding back the offense.

Not sure where exactly it was that I said that the offensive line was the only problem with the Vols' offense. But yeah, JG has a lot of work to do. Pretty sure that's why improvements from him are a good thing.

A very small part. Anyone that’s wants to we can sit down and break film down frame by frame. Everyone will see the all the offense in general was the problem. I-line, receivers and even the backs missing blocks. JG biggest problem was he was beat to death, there’s no doubt he was very sore and hurt by game four. By Alabama he had to have some fear of being hit and how bad it was going to hurt.

Tired of these threads bashing a guy that is as good as Shuler. No one knows how to watch or elevate film and plays.
They just want to bash JG. But you are orrect, they don't know crap about the bsics of football

Did you really compare to JG to Shuler? They are miles apart in almost every way possible. Might as well compare Colton Jumper to Al Wilson.

Not even close. The difference Shuler had a line a good line and JG has a middle school line playing inthe SEC. No they are not that far apart. You just have no idea how to read talent and watch game film. Like I said I will set down with anyone and compare film frame by frame.

This is the last time I’m talking about this to a bunch of people that has never had anything to do with football except maybe lottle leave and kids playing. If his O line improves and he has time his numbers will more than double yards and td then all of you can come back and say how wrong you are.

You're right about one thing. It's not even close. You have no idea what talent is or isn't. When JG has time, his long throws sputter in the air. It's a jump ball. He has trouble reading a defense too. Never saw any of that with Heath. Don't need to watch game film. It's obvious during the game.

Probably another guy who stands with JG for reasons other than what you see on the football field.

If he struggles again, It will be everyone else's fault. Your excuse is already there. You just said it.

OK I'll bite. Please enlighten us all to the proper way to read talent and break down game film.

True. But Dobbs could use his athleticism (legs) and smarts to get out of bad situations and get back to back 9 win seasons. Our current starter can't do either.
This x 100... it will not take long to determine if JG has a mental block that cannot be fixed.

I dont think a lot of football fans, especially here, will understand the baseball stat reference. That being said, literally every positive article or post on JG's performance relies solely on baseball-esque stats.
well feel free to post anti-articles

Chemistry with the new OC is what I’m worried about. It’s not like he and Chaney are coming into this for their 3rd year straight. Still a learning curve but hopefully he does better.

the anti-JG guys:

on our running game sucking......."the oline is terrible"

on JG getting hit so much........"JG is terrible"

that about sums it up

When JG makes a bad pass, or makes another bad read. Who do you blame?

Someone Vol fans are so happy to have a QB like JG, that they will not fault him for anything. Blame someone else. Sounds very familiar

If he has more than .001 seconds to throw the ball, yes.

Dobbs had a much worse o line shielded by his ability to run when the pocket broke down.JG can’t get out of the pocket or make up his mind fast enough when the pocket collapses to win games it’s that simple.you stat chasers blow my mind when literally in 2 years he’s thrown 16 touchdowns and 6 interceptions, that’s embarrassing.

So basically you just agreed with me👀🤷🏽‍♂️ I rest my case.JG was a dual threat QB just like Dobbs though so what’s the issue?..he can’t make decisions fast enough,it’s simple🤷🏽‍♂️ Even in high school his percentage was like 2 yards per game “average” rushing yards,it’s sad nobody can see he isn’t the answer all because of a QBR!?!.That doesn’t win games lol.

Backup qb is everyone's friend until they realize there was a reason why they were the backup to begin in the first place......

If I were you and a few others here, I would pump your brakes a little, use your common sense and don't get your hopes up. This coach might know what he's talking about, but he very well might not and I don't want you guys ruining everything by buying into.... JG has improved some. You guys could ruin our whole season by believing that JG has improved... Some.

That's some pretty thick sarcasm right there, but I swear on everything orange in my house that some of you seem disappointed and even mad that someone says he's improved some. Why? Lol, cause that would mean y'all were wrong!!

You're not fooling anyone.
Behr, you have me all wrong, here. I’m not a JG pumper and have stayed on the porch for that/those debate(s)!

Sometimes backups step up. Payton Manning himself was once our backup as I recall.
I use vouched for JT shrout to get more snaps but in saying that I honestly believe JG hasn't been able to show his full potential due to the lack of good offensive line play in front of him.

Will probably be a while before we see another Dobbs but he doesn't even need to be dual threat, just more movement in the pocket would be a huge step.

Was watching PM and JG highlights earlier and 2 differences that stood out the most.

1. When needed, PM was all over the pocket to create that extra half second for play development. JG needs to improve here.

2. Hitting the receivers in stride. PM had a knack for it obviously but receivers slow on too many throws from JG.
Several missed TD opportunities as a result.

First play is a TD but you still see the it. The 55 second mark is a perfect example though. SHOULD have been a TD.
