You can be over all spring and summer. Just have to get down to 85 by fall camp.

I agree Summer doesn't get counted, since it says they are counted for the ensuing academic year. But Spring players are counted immediately, so my understanding is they have to be able to be replaced by an outgoing player. There was a thread on 247 last week about this and it is what the mods there were saying.

15.5.1.9 Summer-Term Aid
15.5.1.9.1 Exception—Football. [FBS/FCS] In football, a prospective student-athlete who receives athletically related financial aid during a summer term prior to initial full-time enrollment at the certifying institution shall be an initial and overall counter for the ensuing academic year.

(Spring enrollees/EEs)
15.5.6.3.2 Recruited Student-Athlete Entering After Fall Term, Aided in First Year. [FBS/FCS] A student-athlete recruited (per Bylaw 15.02.9) by the awarding institution who enters after the first term of the academic year and immediately receives institutional financial aid (based in any degree on athletics ability) shall be an initial counter for either the current academic year (if the institution’s annual limit has not been reached) or the next academic year. The student-athlete shall be included in the institution’s total counter limit during the academic year in which the aid was first received.

But these same EEs can be "replaced" by outgoing players:
15.5.6.3.4 Midyear Replacement. [FBS/FCS]

Speaking of 85 limit, anyone know how many SRs are on the roster next year? Thinking ahead to attrition for 2020
I think I count 35 juniors on the 2019 spring roster. So add in any Jucos or transfers not listed there that are coming in summer and will be seniors in 2020 and it's close to half the dang roster.

Edit: I'd say at least 20-25 are either expected to or have contributed.

Could be off here, but my estimates are we have 15 seniors this year and 26 juniors (including DK and KG Jr). Using 247's scholarship distribution page. They seem to do a decent job of counting for redshirts, etc, though it used to be JACKED UP. I think they have fixed it recently to be more accurate.

But this could still be off. I'm also assuming guys like Middleton and S Williams are technically Juniors (2 years left of playing time), though I really don't know the status of all our JUCO transfers tbh.

Re: UAB

That "good" Texas A&M defense ranked #98 in the nation last year against the pass and Northern Illinois ranked #95. Both were excellent against the run but couldn't defend the pass if their lives depended on it.

Clark had 23 guys in his 2019 recruiting class. 16 signed and I think the jury is out on whether or not the other 7 get enrolled. There were I think 5 JUCO guys in the class. Connelly gives UAB a 7% chance of pulling the upset in Neyland. Last year UAB was #10 in returning production; this year they are dead last in FBS at #130. I think the preseason ESPN FPI projects us as a 24 point favorite at home against the Blazers. The same projection I think has us as a 5.7 point underdog in the swamp.

I recently went back and watched all the post game interviews from our games with Missouri and Vanderbilt last year. The big difference this year is if we have guys who don't want to play we have enough bodies now that we can put someone else on the field. Last year we just didn't have the bodies so we were stuck. While I understand the idea of our game with UAB being a trap game this year, I think we'll blow their 2019 team off the field when they visit Neyland. The Florida game may be closer but I'm figuring, owing to the loss of 7 of their top 8 offensive linemen and key playmakers at all three levels on defense, we will have a good shot to win that one as well. jmo.

UAB has a big challenge in 2019, but it’s overcome bigger

UAB is going to absolutely have a rough season. No one replaces 19 of their starters and wins a bunch of games, no less upsets an SEC team.

We return 91% offensive production and 76% defensive.

UAB returns 33% offensive production and 39% defensive. Dead last in all of FBS in returning production.

Just put all this into a function on my TI-83 and it spit back out: "WGWTFA"

Has there been a shift in recruiting philosophy since last Summer? Seems that last year a lot of people were telling us that the staff would not extend an offer to a kid who did not come to camp, unless it was an obvious take. It's been widely reported that, so far, the staff has offered between 400-500 prospects. Are Vols taking more of a shotgun approach now?

Just wondering if these were all Pruitt offers for just this class. Only asking because I know some erroneous reports were out in previous years about how UT was offering more than any other school by a wide margin. But it seemed it was only half-true, because Butch had offered a ton, then Pruitt came in and had to offer his own guys. Hard to see Pruitt being the kind of guy that would go out and spread offers like this.

The reality is the 'Wheel' was not going to be broken as easily as what the writers gave us. And Bran as king? The same Bran who not that long ago said "I can't be lord of Winterfell; I can't be lord of anything. I'm the 3-eyed Raven," the same Bran who said he lives in the past, suddenly can now be king of the Six Kingdoms? But speaking of the Six Kingdoms, does anyone really believe the lords, or ladies, of some of those former kingdoms, specifically the Iron Islands and Dorne, would not have insisted on the same independence as Bran gave Sansa and the North, essentially his first act of narcissism as king? We already saw Asha/Yara side with Grey Worm in wanting Jon punished for killing Dany, not to mention the Greyjoy's long-standing hatred of the Starks. I find it hard to believe that she would not have at least put up an argument for the autonomy of the Ironborn. Same with the new prince of Dorne; the writers didn't bother to tell us what house, but Dorne was the one kingdom that Aegon the Conqueror could not conquer, and the Targereyns were only later able to bring into the realm through marriage; and we had seen that tradition continue as late as Rhaegar Targareyn's marriage to Elia Martell. So any real loyalty Dorne had to the Iron Throne was to the Targareyns. Although there were more Martells in the books than in the tv show, for the sake of the show we will assume the Martell house was gone, but it would have been one of the other Dornish great houses (Daynes, Yronwoods) most likely to assume control of Dorne. Bran's control of the kingdoms was rather weak and vulnerable at that point, so I just find it hard to believe that the 2 kingdoms who had been the hardest for the iron Throne to control wouldn't seize what appears to be a golden opportunity for independence.

Just one theory I've heard mentioned on Bran's ("I don't want"...nah "this is what I was waiting for all along) is that he does have some sense of the future - ie when he says "I'm waiting for an old friend" right before Jaime arrives in Winterfell. This fact means he really can't go around telling people how things will play out - otherwise people will go and eff it all up. Similar to in The Avengers when Doctor Strange tells Iron Man that he could not tell him of the outcome, otherwise it would not happen. It seemed to me he played all the pieces right and everyone fulfilled their roles so they could defeat the NK, just as Bran intended.

Excellent point...now instead of Dany runnin it all while breaking many eggs along the way, but still probably ushering in a Pax Romana era in the process...Westeros is going to have many eggs broken anyway with virtually unending internal Westerosi war, weakening them to the point that eventually a Nymeria/Aegon/Daenerys type shows up and conquers them all again...while breaking many eggs...this seems to evade the peacenik idiots...Nature abhors a vacuum.

Wouldn't part of Bran's advantage be that he would foresee any internal struggles? This seems like a massive advantage over any other rulers.

Besides, any society that eventually overtakes divine rulers has to start somewhere. The answer is to start down that path, not more of the same. They have at least begun down a better path.

Coach O can recruit but I'm happy with Pruitt

"O" is going to stick with that same ole 1970's LSU offense that has dragged that university down for the past decade. Until they realize Alabama has far surpassed them in scheme, they will keep doing the same thing over and over. Running 8 man fronts and running into walls of defenders. Brains, does Ogre have them?

The way I understand how foresight in this world works, is that it is kind of sketchy..sort of unreliable, more like things that could happen, but could have different outcomes if people make different choices, or the sooth may not really understand, or misread the foretelling causing varying unintended consequences. That is why The Red Woman made so many missteps. It is very useful, but could also be useless or very dangerous depending on the circumstances.

I’ll be speaking at Awaken Church in Columbia, SC this Sunday if anyone wants to swing by and fist bump. If a knife fight in the street is more your game, I’m down for that too

Short note... there are mentally deranged folks all over DC. Folks screaming at the air... everywhere. Sad state of affairs 😞

I always thought about the Red Woman - why didn't she just birth another "black smoke assassin" to go kill the NK?

Whatever it is, there are a disturbing amount of people not in their right mind. My kids have had a rough time adjusting to the perceived threat. Heading south tomorrow though. Will be just south of Charlotte. Onto Columbia Friday

Just realized you were serious. I thought it was code for campaigning political folk. Now I feel bad.

In my defense, it's a apt description for both.
