I started to point out earlier that by the time it was Fulmer and Boyd combo, basically all the "proven" were taken/renewed.
A search ran from the beginning under those guys?. May have been some serious money tossed around.

Boyd has been surprising. He has a reputation for being frugal and conservative, but he has been tossing money around like confetti. Fulmer and Boyd are taking it personally-- they want UT back at the top of the SEC.

Easiest schedule we've had in many years. Less than 7 wins will be a problem for Pruitt and recruiting. He needs 7 minimum which is very doable this fall. Win the 4 OOC and 3 conference games.

If that doesn't happen in year 2 this place will be signing petitions next spring for a FAHR EM ALL Party.

This.

The VQ guys (twiw) said Boyd is the most "athletic friendly" since Johnson/Dickey combo.
While it surprised me, I fully choose to believe this because it's awesome.

Fully agree, that's why I think BYU is such a huge swing game. Lose to them and there's really no room for error anywhere else on the schedule. I think SC, Kentucky and Vandy absolutely have to be wins this year. That would be my path to 7. Going 4-0 OOC and beat those 3. Would leave us with @Florida, Miss St home and @Mizzou to make a run at a truly great season.

In your opinion, will Pruitt have signed an extension a year from now?

There is an awful lot to be said for getting leadership that is passionate about a place as opposed to the shiny object from Middle America.

Not unconditionally. But I think we'll get to 8-9 wins with a bowl win. Keep getting better as the season goes on, finish strong, get a good bowl win, sign a solid recruiting class, keep the APR high and IMO, that'll get him a bump and an extension. I'm not in the "6 wins is overachieving" camp. We need to win, recruit well and keep building-- and I think we will.

We do send out offers early but I think asking how many were we focused on is the real point. And a legitimate question imo.
Gray was a long time target. People worried about his obtainability if he had gone through with transferring to IMG. EVERYONE knew who Crouch was! Wright and Morris has been heavily recruited by Wells...Wright hadn’t officially ruled us out yet and Morris committed to Florida State. McBride was the only name I was unfamiliar with on that OL list. Maurer came out of nowhere and Toto isn’t even on Newt’s list...because pipe dream.

The coach being quoted missed an opportunity to fluff up the time period even more. What better way to make a team less appealing to recruits then to say it’s going to be even longer to get back than from the time they sign to the time they graduate?

Negative recruiting...who’da thunk it? 😏

He's not getting 5 years to compete. Year 3 is gonna be tough enough because the schedule. If he goes 7-5 this season, then follows it up with a similar record (6-6. 7-5) in year 3 he'll be on the hot seat in year 4. Will Muschamp is already catching major heat at South Carolina.
You wish you KNEW something. 😏

We're on a tough road. Basically trying to beat other programs at their own game when they have a massive head start. We don't just need to get better, we need them to at least stop improving and really we probably need them to get fat and lazy and regress. That's where a hire like Kelly or Leach could be a game changer. Bring in a new offense that nobody wants to deal with. It's a gamble, but one that could pay off more quickly than five years out. And what if we get to 2023 and all CJP has done is get us to about where SC is now, squarely dominating the middle of the division? Do we keep on that path and hope for a magical 9-5 season when we can get blasted in the SECCG like the cocks were in 2010, or do we shake it up? I just don't understand how the path we're on is ever going to get us back to 90s level success.
No one would be bisching about recruiting. We’d be conceding that our HC sucks at it with those two names...lots of advance notice. Quirky offenses never exposed in the SEC. 😉

Definitely true. You can feel the "want-to" and the urgency. That has to inspire the coaches and the players to see and feel that commitment.

Yeah eventually coaches are going to stop wanting to come here. I just don’t get who people think we’re going to hire. We’ve been through 3 coaching searches now and proven time and again we aren’t going to shell out the big money needed for an elite coach.

Pruitt is a young coach, great coordinator and good recruiter. However, he’d never been a head coach until last year. It’s going to take him a while to get this all figured out. So far I think he’s shown that he’s willing to change and adapt but that will take time and patience from the fans
Took Smart one year with almost a duplicate resume...cepting he had never coordinated a NC defense outside Tuscaloosa. Let’s give Pruitt the same before we declare crap.

I think it’s one of those things that is like why keep trying to find a hidden gem for a few million less when you could spend a few extra million up front where you’re not guaranteed by no means but more likely to get success.

It looks like 7+ mil is that “magic number” to lure a proven head coach.

Michigan paid 7 mil for harbaugh and they are nationally relevant every year since and have easily made their money/revenue back.

Texas AM is doing it with Jimbo.

No matter which search of the searches you go back to or what the state of the program was. I find it very hard to believe if we truly offered any candidate (Shaw, Peterson, Patterson, nfl coach etc.). 7-8 mil a year for 7 years that they wouldn’t be our coach.
Wonder why Oklahoma didn’t shell out the dough...and settled for that unproven Gators DC? And didn’t back the Brinks truck up for one of those names to succeed Stoops...OC who’d never been a HC before? Crap programs gonna crap! 😏

LSU wouldn’t either? Or did they try...for both Fisher AND Herman? Only for both to go elsewhere? Explain that one.

They didn’t offer the kind of contracts like we’re talking about. It’s not just a Tennessee problem. USC did the same thing it’s why clay Helton is their coach.

Even big programs have to really pony up now to pull people. Unless it’s someones Alma something

If i remember correctly... LSU offered jimbo like 6mil or something and he turns them down and Herman wanted what they offered jimbo and they wouldn’t go that high?
The fact that they ended up with with ED should be enough to tell you that something was off money wise. Sometimes it may not be the HCs salary but the staff allotment.

Gundys alma is OSU. That’s probably the only thing that keeps him from leaving. He turned down Florida too. Pat Fitzgerald has been approached a lot too.
