Not sure why the label above has Obama elected rather than the financial crisis.

Anyway, this is the trend in many, if not most developed nations.

That is correct. This is a worldwide trend amongst developed nations. Another reason why immigration is important to sustain our status as top dog.

Drop in birth rate in that window is probably a combination of citizens reducing pregnancies as well as a lot of high birthrate illegal immigrants leaving the country/not crossing due to the economy. I’m sure we’ll see that number tick back up in the near future.

Terrible economy makes more kids a poor decision. One could elaborate on who chooses birth control, and who chooses abortion, as well as who acts as if they are the same...but i digress.

Obama ruined everything he touched, but this one isnt on him.

I think some of it is a product of what many have perceived as bad parenting. Because many people my age didnt have good experience with their parents they dont have the same desire for kids as those who did.

Completely anecdotal, but it seems like more who had bad home lifes dont want kids than those who had good home lifes.

I think it’s also generational. Millennials are more about experiences than possessions. It’s hard to globe trot or go to parties every weekend with kids. A lot of people simply don’t want the responsibility. It will be interesting to see what this does in the distant future to long term/nursing care. We’re already starting to see a worker shortage as boomers had less kids that their parents, and in 30-40 years there will be even less working age people to care for the elderly.

It's time for the elderly to take care of themselves.
