I retired from the VA 7+ months ago, and they still call to ask questions. lolManaging people. Having direct reports. I did it for 20 years. Nineteen years ago, I gave it up for a professional contributor role, leading engagements and managing project teams. It was a balance of life decision, not so much about the folks reporting to me as the demands of those to whom I reported. When senior officers of the company call you on vacation about something that can wait or be handled by my designated hitter, it's time to move on. I was fighting a sailfish within sight of the shoreline and cell reception when the mate answered my mobile phone. He told me it was my President and CEO, I had to hand off the rod and take the call. With that hand-off, the sailfish didn't count in the tournament. Inanity. An exceedingly rare sailfish hook-up that close to shore for naught but a photograph. The release went well. It was young and in beautiful condition, about 40-something pounds.
Where is your mother, I was at Christian Care off Kirby. I’m back in Baptist East currently.I’m not terribly happy that we had a mechanical “issue” at AVL and I had to postpone my return trip to Memphis to tomorrow. I let my mother’s nursing home know, but I’ll need to explain it multiple times to her due to her short term memory loss and everything else.
She’s out at Memphis Jewish Home and Rehab, back at skilled rehab level. The paralysis has worn off a bit to where she can sit up in a wheelchair. Took a month to get to that point, but that’s something. I’m working on getting her transferred to skilled rehab in Asheville soon.I’ve spent the better part of 7 weeks there, 500 miles away from home, and I can’t do it any longer.
Are they giving you any kind of discharge date? I’d love to come see you (smuggle in goodies??) if you’ll be stuck there a while. I go back and forth past Baptist East every blessed day, up and down Walnut Grove. I used to be scared of Poplar, but I’ve seen three major wrecks on WG in the last two months plus I don’t know how many minor ones, and it’s my new nightmare road.![]()
Sympathies. My mother suffers TIAs, and these mess up her sense of the present and memory. After a TIA, I've had to repeat who I am, where we are, the date, the time, our circumstances... She'll also fix in her mind erroneous memories of past events. If they're harmless, I've learned to let these go.I’ll need to explain it multiple times to her due to her short term memory loss and everything else.
