Another great point.

@CeJayVols This time last year we only had Lampley, Lowe and Morris (who committed on May 1st). And then we had a run of 13 commitments over the summer.

Maybe also kids are in a wait and see mood right now with Tennessee. Waiting to see if they see any improvement at all over last year and year before.

I really hope so. Time will tell I guess. Just frustrating seeing all these other teams getting their share this early and seems we can't buy a recruit right now! I thought we would have had at least two kids commit during the orange/white game at least Tennessee kids and I was disappointed nothing came out of it except a 2 star and whatever the kid was that committed.
Spring games get a ton of hype for commitments but most of the time you only get one or two. Even Clemson, who's on fire right now, only had 1 this year at their spring game. Spring is slow for commitments. Kids are going to camps, school, spring practice for their HS team, taking visits etc...with the new rule that you can take OV's before senior year many kids are now using spring and summer to take those and then commit. All of those reasons are why most of our commits will happen in May, June, July and August. Then it will be slow again in the fall because of the season and after the season it will pick back up.

It's possible but most of those kids I listed have said they will likely commit over the summer and the vols are in good shape with most of them.

Using a losing record and no bowl game last year is an excuse in my opinion and Vol fans like to use about every year from Dooley to now Pruitt. Every year it's "we coming" for last 6-7 years which is the joke SEC fans like to use about our Vols every year. It's now time to finally put up or shut up!!!! I'm not expecting to win a natty within next 3-5 years but I do want to see improvement over next 5 years mainly with starting to at least beat Florida every other year.

Look at Oregon last year with Mario. He killed it in recruiting top 10 coming off one of the worse years Oregon had in years and got their head coach fired and Mario hired. LSU, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Miami are all having great recruiting so far out the gates along with the usual Clemson, Bama, Ohio State, etc..
Pruitt got a great class coming off a bad year too. 247 (not composite but just their rankings) has us with the no.9 class. We’re doing fine in that area.

And quantity doesn’t mean quality. A couple of those kids committed to GT were told no by us.

This was always going to be a 3 year rebuild at best. The Tennessee job is in a uniquely bad position. The fans expect coaches to compete for championships ASAP yet we’re at an all time low and most of the other teams in the conference are good. We were the only sec team to not have a player drafted. 3 out of the last 5 years we haven’t had a player drafted. It’s time for us to realize that this place ain’t what it used to be, and that patience with Pruitt and this group is our best bet (so long as we see steady improvement). They’re getting good players and I think they got pretty much all they could out of last year’s roster considering it was pruitt’s first time being a HC. I’m excited to see how year 2 goes.

Last thing ill add. If your idea of fun is sitting up late, ridiculing, belittling, and putting yourself up on some sort of materialism based high horse - all to make yourself feel better, and, because you derive enjoyment from it, you may wanna reevaluate some things.

I dont know much, but, i've been there. When that house of cards comes crumbling, it happens quick, and, you better be prepared. In whatever way you need to be.

Best of luck.

Still waiting for that commitment.
😂

I’m not the one that was doing any of those things listed. My post was missing the blue font because I don’t blue font.

Exactly how I see it. I believe CJP is by far the best HC we could hope for coming out of the Botch/Bahama John/SchiaNO mess. He had nothing left to prove as a DC. He was ready and he lobbied to get the job. He knows UT tradition and trusts Phil. Recruits and players trust him to develop them to become their best. Some of the very best recruiters and developers of talent in the nation are on this staff. This will take 3 to 5 years to become elite. But it will happen and like you I am excited to watch it.

Hoops note...

Dont know that I’m going to be able to get an interview with Olivier Robinson-Nkamhoua based off how he and his family have handled things to this point with his recruitment.

With that said, have heard that the visit was excellent. Based off what I’m hearing this afternoon I think Tennessee feels like they have put themselves in great position to land him.

Don’t know when we can expect an announcement but I’m feeling like Tennessee May the team to beat after the visit.

I think the word "excuse" gets used too frequently. I prefer the phrase "reasonable explanation."

Our current staff is the most decorated recruiting staff we've had in a long, long time. Their track record speaks for itself. It's clear they know exactly what it takes to win big prospects and it seems clear (to me anyway) they are giving maximum effort. So, if recruiting is slow, there must be some reasonable explanations.

I think a number of good ones have been offered and it's probably a mix of them all. Here are some that resonate with me: March/April is typically slow; we are on the same pace as last year and last year's class was a good one; a lot of our top targets announce this summer and we've got momentum with a number of them; we're recruiting elite players that usually take longer to coax; young prospects probably take some convincing to join a program that has been as mediocre as ours in recent years; Clemson has the same recruiting footprint as us and is performing at stratospheric levels. I don't see any of those reasons as an excuse. They are just facts of life.

People watching at the beach is something else.

Have a Bama couple next to me that are both drunk and falling in the ocean while holding their beers up yelling “saved my beer” every time they fall. They are also drinking Busch light. Gucci would be proud.

Where you at? Water warm?

I take so much optimism from this offseason. I don't think I can remember such a successful offseason. Kept Fitz, Nieds was #1 recruiter, got Chaney, Tee, and Ansley. If you told fans all this in December, 99 out of 100 fans would have taken it (Catbone excluded).

Watch Lawrence stay his senior year. DJ would transfer real quick-like.
Was talking to a proud Clemson fan the other day. He was convinced Lawrence would leave after this season. Tried to tell him it takes 3 years to be NFL eligible, but he was convinced it was 2 years. I gave him a pass, being a Clemson fan and all. Most only started following CFB within the last 5 years.

Probably been doing it since they were kids...

Hopefully their mom and dad are keeping an eye on them

Nieds was #2 actually. But a stud recruiter none the less. Really excited about Chaney and Tee. Fitz staying is huge. We need stability in the S&C department in the absolute worst way. I hope he stays for years.
