One thing I have never understood is why this man does not get his due with Vol fans. Peyton Manning basically looks at this guy like a second father, but most armchair QBs are nothing but critical.

The truth of the matter is that David Cutcliffe is the only reason this team had any success at all over the past two seasons. Without him, it would have been more of the same. Does anybody remember how the main player response to Cutcliffe's return was his attention to detail and discipline?

Now, he is getting it done at Duke and people are noticing (Forde at ESPN.com): "Duke (6). Record: 3-1, its best start since 1994, including 1-0 in the ACC. Reason: Coaching change to David Cutcliffe paying immediate and dramatic dividends. Blue Devils have scored more than 30 points three times in four games, something not accomplished since the Head Ball Coach was in Durham 20 years ago."

With Cutcliffe in Knoxville, the team scored points. In the years he hasn't been there, the offense has stunk it up (don't forget those offenses from 2002-2005). I'm not saying he should be the next head coach, I'm just tired of him not getting his due.

He doesn't get his due because he has more integrity than to care what the UT fans think about him now that he's gone. I think the results speak for themselves.

I agree, it seems to me that when we were scoring points, Cutcliffe was the one calling the plays. To be honest, I would love to see him as the head coach.

I think I'd be willing to give just about anyone a shot right now. Glad it's not up to me, because I wouldn't be picky.

Cutcliff is doing a great job at Duke.....he is turning that program around.......what are they NO 2 in the ACC?............

Haven't you learned why our coaches get bashed? It's because some believe Coach Bashing makes them appear as wise as a tree full of owls. The Negavols boys would have run the General Out of Town in 1938-39 & 40. These folks can't imagine themselves perceived as intelligent humans if they are not running someone into the grounds. It's a lifestyle in which numbnuts inflate their perception of themselves.

I always liked cut... I think he is a great OC/HC and apparently he knows something about qb since he has had 2 #1 overall picks and didnt think crompton was that good

I think it goes way beyond calling the plays. It is developing a mindset. Remember how Cutcliffe came in and immediately took the earrings out of Ainge's ears and turned his cap around straight? That is disclipline, and it is something this team desperately needs.

Remember the stories of how he would spend hours on just breaking the huddle? That is paying attention to detail and sending the message that we are not going to do it any way other than the right way.

Now, what do we have? A QB and RB who have literally bumbled and fumbled all over themselves in a manner that would make a junior high coach shudder (and lost at least the UCLA and Auburn games), and what is the result? A 1-3 record and only now the prospect of sitting them down.

These are young men. If you don't demand excellence from them, they are going to take the easy way out. That is nothing against them, I think it is natural at that age. They need a real coach.

Cut does fine with somebody elses players. The knack on him was he can't recruit. He left Ole Miss void of talent and didn't relate well with the boosters. The jury is still out on Cut as a HC. As CPF would say lets look at the body of work........but as a QB coach and OC he is exceptional.

Haw freaking Haw! It's primarily the Fulmer loyalists that have been bashing Cut and Trooper ever since they departed. By the way, OSU's offense looks pretty darn sweet compared to the Vols' offense right now. In my opinion, the reason for the bashing of departed coaches is that the rubes who comprise a great portion of the UTK fan base have bought into the the bill of goods known as the UT football family hook line and sinker. These people have replaced rational thought with some bizzare philosophy that makes them think loyalty to the program is more important than winning. This explains alot of the residual goodwill for Fulmer despite the current situation. Wake up folks! The football program generates 10s of millions of dollars each year. It is big business and the staff are the managers. This is not your kid's Pop Warner team where we all need to hug up and circle the wagons when times get tough lest our fragile egos be bruised.

I was not referring to the coaches that have left the program. I was referring to any coach who becomes a part of the program. Give the new arrival time to make two restroom stops and the Negavols will start bellowing their ego-essential skull inflations.

Jesus Christ could not come on Campus as the Head Coach without being applauded the first day and jeered the second. It is a way of life for some of our friends and they just can't help themselves.Unfortunately, no one has as yet come up with a 12 Step Program that will ease their agony. Unfortunately, for them and society, this is just a cross that they must bear.

One hundred percent right. That is why he could never make it as UT Head coach. With the top Recruiting budget in the nation he would probably push most all of his responsibilities onto his staff.

Cut is loyal to Phil, he would not take the HC job.

I don't know if he would really be the best choice anyway, but then again I thought that Crompton would be a good quarterback and needed to be given a chance.

I think that I was wrong about that one.

You hit it on the head. We missed that discipline on offense and Cutcliffe brought that with intensity.

Coach Cutcliffe is a Living Legend like myself. He will have the Dukies competing for the ACC title in a few years. He instills hardwork and discipline.

I think I have heard Peyton say his best coach was his dad.

Maybe so, but Peyton still meets with Cutcliffe every off-season to review his play from the previous year. So does Eli.
