It's odd but when Butch was let go, I didn't dwell on his tenure much at all. "Let it go" rather quickly.
The reason it bothers me more now than during losses is our current staff. Hank and others can rightfully distribute blame on W/L because Pruitt isn't a proven head coach. A few of our staff weren't proven in their roles.
BUT they were very proven and experienced at developing talent. The draft results was just another slap in the face as to how far development had dropped under the previous regime.

I don't view life with the "plenty of time to go" attitude that I once had. And my son is growing up faster than I imagined. One of my dreams for us was that Neyland experience. The real one, not the level that Georgia State brings but the one where a top 10 team comes to town and we expect to win. Definitely not lose by 30.

If a coach recruits and develops but just fails on game management, so be it. It happens. But when they ruin recruiting relationships (Dooley) or decide we don't need SEC size and strength like everyone else.. I realize not only what we lost but that it was so unnecessary. Years wasted as a program and from our fan life over their attitudes. Not game decisions but the minimum job requirements they were so happy to take the money to perform. It pisses me off.

Sorry so long, just had to get it off my chest. Rant over.
All of this. Couldn't agree more.

How many guys you see drafted next year?
Locks- D.Taylor, J.Jennings, M.Callaway.

Possibly- Bituli, Gooden, DWA, Warrior.

Potential Early Departures- Chandler, Solomon (if cleared to play).

Hard to say any are locks. Taylor is probably the one on the list that has the best chance to be. Followed by dwa imo. Gooden after that.

Everybody else is going to have to do things they have yet to prove they can do from a consistency standpoint.

But that's a good list to start with...

I think Darrel Taylor will definitely be drafted my guess would he as high as round 3 but probably in that 4-5 range. (Barring an enormous leap) just bc edge is the draft craze now a days.

The WR class in 2020 is absolutely loaded so that will make it tough on Jennings and Calloway.

Agree with you on DWA. If he catches 30 balls and a few TDs he will definitely get drafted. Isaac Nauta got 29 and 30 under ol Jim so that’s not unlikely for DWA

I think you're exactly right on W/L record this fall. 7 and we're on track, 8+ and things are definitely going to be much better soon. 6 or less and thats not a good sign for Pruitt's tenure at UT. And this is the easiest schedule we've had in awhile. 7 is beating the 4 OOC and 3 SEC games. Very doable.

I want to agree with this but I really do have a hard time putting a win total on Pruitt for this year. I’m not sure what good it does.

I don’t want to think about this, but let’s say he goes 5-7 and we miss a bowl. No way Fulmer fires him. But I do believe the fanbase will bail on him and recruiting would suffer accordingly. Then what number would he need to win the next year to stay? If he goes only 7-5 and we fire him, do we really think a big name coach would want the job? Could we really do better than Pruitt? By that point the Tennessee job will have been a dead end for a while. We’d be staring down another 3 or 4 year rebuild, putting the date we are officially “back” somewhere in 2025 or 2026.

I think our best bet is just to give Pruitt space and let him grind. He’s clearly a hard worker that wants to win and knows what a winning program looks like. He just needs time. I don’t know if he will win us any titles but I think we probably just need someone to prove to the world that a coach can have sustainable success at Tennessee before we worry about titles. Pruitt gives us a good chance at that, I think.

Yeah they're the only two presently that have a skill set or measurables that NFL guys covet... Gooden had the measurables too.. He needs to produce.

The wasted time is what's really grating. If you could've peered into a crystal ball in 2008 and seen what the next decade plus was going to bring I don't think anyone would have believed it. A few years of struggling mightily is one thing. What has happened to Tennessee is quite another thing altogether.

So you think they were worthy of picks? Haven't heard anyone. including those that follow the team as a job, suggest that.

You get to about round 5 and anyone who can/does make a roster is "worthy" it's really buyers choice. I mean one of the top RBs last season in the NFL wasn't drafted.

3/5 on that list are trash. JG is probably the worst on there though.

I would love to sit down with a PFF person and look at their grades. Last year they had Keller Chryst graded higher than Tua when we played against them.

Set aside anyone’s opinion on JG including my own... how the hell is Fromm rated lower than him? He had 30tds and 6ints

It's also sad when you consider that Florida has been down pretty badly during this stretch, and they have multiple 10 win seasons, they've played for 2 SEC titles, and a Sugar Bowl. Michigan has been cycling through coaches, but still bangs out 10 or 11 wins every couple of years. Texas has flopped to an all-time low, but seems already to be rebounding with a convincing Sugar Bowl win over UGA. Florida State has bobbed up and down, but grabbed a national title along the way.

Frankly, we haven't fallen apart like a typical "blue blood." We've collapsed like Pitt or Colorado or some of those older programs that used to challenge for titles but ultimately faded into complete oblivion...

People act like they won't miss a beat with Drew Lock leaving, but I am far from sold on Bryant.

Yeah I think they'll miss a beat losing so much on both sides of the ball. But unfortunately the gap over the past 2 years has been well more a single beat or 2. Might take until 2020 to get that matchup straightened out.
