I remember disagreeing with a poster last draft who said that Brown’s Combine would cost him money that he’d never recover. My counter was that it’s all about the second contract and that he was the same player with the same reach and ballast that dominated in college, but would build on that in the pros. The counter to that counter was that his poor workout indicated lack of intensity and want to and he’d be gone in 3 seasons. That could still happen but the Combine has become it’s own entity instead of its original intent as a tie breaker for close prospects. You can play or you can’t. These guys will never be timed in a 40 again or the number of times they bench 225 counted. World’s their oyster or where they can disappear into the ether.

Hot take: the 40 is the most overrated measurement in sports.

I was at a work event last night talking football. It became clear to me (once again) how little legitimate respect the casual fan has for Tennessee football. There were lots of jokes about the team. Not the kind of mean jokes of a rival. But the sort of gentle laughs people used to make about the Cubs and other notable sports franchises known for their losing. I declared to the crowd I thought the Tennessee-Georgia game could be a good one with the way the schedule sets up, and people just laughed and said that guy is such an optimist! We have next to no respect, guys. Gotta grind and go earn it. Can’t fire coaches year after year to get there either. No quick fixes.

You should’ve beat the crap out of someone there just for being pieces of 💩

Long thought so. Emmitt Smith never clocked faster than 4.6 nor Jerry Rice. Both dominate in any era. Simeon Rice clocked a 4.5 in shorts...didn’t play in shorts.

A lot of times i think Combine performances can talk teams into lesser players just bc they tested well. Take Jon Ross from Washington for example. He was a good prospect, probably early - mid 2nd round range before the combine but he goes and runs a 4.21 or whatever and gets moved into the top 10.

I think Teams smartly avoided DK metcalf early in the draft. I would’ve put a 3rd round grade on him. Dude is a freak and put on a show at the combine so after you see him test you go back and look at his tape and you wonder why that kind of body and player wasn’t more productive. I would rather have the opposite situation and wonder why this super productive player (polite, Orlando brown) didn’t have a good combine.

Wow!!! This is the pic that should be posted next to Butch smoking a cigar with Bama. What an incompetent, overpaid clown. #aintnoorange

Alas better days are ahead. Got a real coach and no longer a band member. Now lock down Vitello with an extension so all our major sports are covered.

The Butch tears on draft day are odd. Dude’s gone for a clear reason and we’re still droning on about it
Usually a 100% with you on this.
But even though I don't say much about him, it's these rare times like this draft, when the situation slaps me in the face again.
It'll move on after this and so will I... again.
