play the second string players much, esp the QB's. This tendency will probably end up costing Phil his job. Had he played Crompton enough last year to realize how bad he is, he would have had time to ditch him and get Stephens et al ready to go before now.

I wish I could say that he learns from his mistakes, but we see the same crap today that's been dogging his tracks for years. Namely not developing players, not playing 2nd string qb's, and dreadful special teams esp the coverage teams.:realmad:

well in order to play the 2nd string you have to run the score up. however, fulmer is know for showing class in games that could be blown out.

how many teams give the 2nd team QB meaningful playing time? There's only so much time allowed for practice so getting the #2 snaps is hard for everyone

Which is the exact point I was making last year. You would have gone into spring this past season having some knowledge of who could play and who couldn't. The worst thing that happened to us last year was for us to back our way into Atlanta just for us to choke it away anyways. Had we gone out and tried to make a move soon after Florida's blow out (around October), we would have at least know what we had in Crompton, Coleman and Stephens. We already knew full well what we were getting out of Ainge.

The unwillingness to take action then has essentially cost us 2 seasons worth of agony. Last year was a waste (SEC East "championships" don't mean jack squat) and this season. And really, if you think about it, it may cost us another season next year, because going into spring, we will have Stephens, Coleman and Petty on our roster and we may not be able to find a QB out of that bunch, either.

This is all on Fulmer. Not only does he not get young players in the game unless he is put into a corner, but his teams have had a history of not developing the talent once it gets here.

We blew out LaLa and Arky St last year enough to get more out of our back ups than we did, and the SC and Kentucky games should have been a blow outs where they got some snaps if it wasn't for the fact that we couldn't score in the second half of either game!

Everyone wants to cry and lament about not having Cutcliffe or Ainge this year, yet all we saw last year was that when the chips were on the table and when the game was on the line, neither one of those guys could produce a clutch play to save their lives. They put up 13 points on Florida, put up 17 on Bama, 14 on LSU, and scored a combined a grand total of 10 pts in the second half of both the SC and Kentucky games.

And another thing... it seems to be a consensus that we would be 3-1 right now if we had Ainge and/or Cutcliffe back. That still is telling, considering that everyone is admitting that we would still lose to Florida inspite of the fact that Ole Miss seemed to be able to score just about as many points Saturday on offense as we were able to do in 2 years with the great Cutcliffe/Ainge in 2006/2007!

I'm tired... this whole staff needs to go. It's nothing personal. I just want Fulmer gone and everything that he has touched out of Knoxville. I'm sick of bumbling/fumbling football (Arian Foster or Crompton at any goaline, Casey Clausen against Florida in 2002, Casey Clausen against UGA in 2003, Corey Anderson and Bama in 2005), I'm tired of pizz poor defense (LSU 2006, DJ Hall in 2005 & 2007, McKinley last year, 3rd and Chavis, 4th and Chavis), and just plain poor preparation (no QB prep this year, no ability to get young players in the mix unless backed into a corner, no player developement, the false starts/delay of games, Chinese fire drills, etc.)...

It's just time for Tennessee football to be fun again. Time for Vol fans to have some hope again. Only way that happens is if Fulmer does the honorable thing and steps down at the end of the season.

Hardesty. OL. DL. LB. DB. Brandon Warren. We play like 7 wide receivers in every game. Plenty of second stringers get reps.

when would we have played crompton last year though? Outside of the smaller 1-a schools, who he got time playing against, there really wasnt any games that were blowouts to let him in early, (we really didnt put UGA completely away till near the 4th either as we only scored once that 2nd half). Our D was very young and had trouble with stopping people, so ainge had to be in alot of the time as most of our games were close

And there's no way any coach would have just switch in crompton in the middle of a close game "just to see how he'd be playing next year," that doesnt make much sense and is poor. And too, after how 05 went, dont expect for this staff to have been using alternating qbs too much again after the effects it had on momentum and offense

but mainly there just werent the spaces for it to have been reasonable to put crompton in instead of ainge...

You do realize there can be, at most, five eligible receivers on a given play, right?

Actually there could be six. That's if the QB hands off to the left guard and then runs downfield. Hey, there's an idea....

I asked the same thing right after the UCLA game. Other coaches do it, Spurrier, Richt, Meyer etc. It just seems we have a history of never taking the time to put in another quarterback unless there are only a few minutes left in the game or someone gets hurt. This year we obviously have nothing to lose.

C'mon spanky, we averaged over 50 players a game last year as to the number of players who got playing time per game.

I do agree though the he should rearrange the coaching staff to include a designated "Special Teams" coach who would be accountable for our ST play.

I also think we should get rid of the yoga exercises in favor of martial arts as an alternative and for goodness sakes quit having the band play that french music crap.

I've read this somewhere before....but I can't quite put my finger on it.....:)

Did I even imply that 7 get on the field at one time? I meant that more than our top 3 WRs get reps.
