I’m not anywhere near a hockey guy, but Kane and Kopitar aren’t stars? I will say a halfway decent PP and they probably get the 1 seed and at least get to the Semis again.
And I mean talent isn’t the issue. It seems more the coaching with the lack of strike throwing. Like I said a 2020 rotation of Folty/Fried/Gausman/Soroka/Wright is about as talented as you fine. And again you can find bullpen arms.
I’d rather have built through position players like the Cubs and Stros (though a core of Acuna/Ozzie/Dans/FF/Pache is good), but I think they’ll find enough pitching to potentially win a title. Or use the farm to find stud pitching.
Kane and Kopitar are (were) good but not elite offensive hockey players, fairly close to the same tier as a couple of guys the Preds have right now. You can always find spots to improve, but Nashvlle doesn't really _need_ anything else other than for the breaks to go their way in the playoffs. (Other than fixing the godawful PP, of course, which again I'm assuming should be straightforward, since it seems entirely schematic.) I know it sucks right now for these guys but IMO they're still as likely as anyone to win the Cup in the next two or three years.
I'm less bullish on the Braves' short-term prospects simply because I'm nowhere near as confident as you that it'll be easy for this front office to convert all this raw pitching talent into a functioning staff. So far they won't sign anybody, they won't trade for anybody, and they won't even decide on roles for the guys they've got. You can find bullpen arms, as you say, but I'm not even sure the Braves know they 're supposed to be looking.
