Yeah we dumped Trotz because of his boring ass brand of hockey and he has gone on to light the hockey world on fire. It’s a crap shoot. The Cup is the hardest to win in professional sports. I give Lavy one more year, make changes and hope Lady Luck makes an appearance come playoff time. S hit, one of the best hockey teams ever just got swept by the freakin Blue Jackets. There are worse positions to be in, we were season tickets holders in the early years, when the regular season Red Wings was our Final. Organization has come a long way. And at some damn point, the power play is on the players.Laviolette is a classic play-harder-rah-rah coach; those guys are a dime a dozen in the NHL and they're all more or less interchangeable. If the locker room isn't listening anymore then IMO there's no reason not to dump him and try somebody different yelling at them next year.
That's a great point. Lavy is more than just rah rah. He is a brilliant offensive mind. Which makes the PP even more head scratching.
Interesting thing about Johansen is that he actually set a career high for assists this year.If I were Poile the thing that would concern me most -- even more than the PP, which should be relatively straightforward to fix -- is figuring out what the hell happened to my top line. Maybe there are injuries involved that the team hasn't admitted yet, but if not then that's a five-alarm fire.

Joey just had a helluva year (second most points in his career), Arvy set the franchise record for goals, (Forsberg would’ve if he didn’t get hurt early on). JOFA line was one of the best in the game. Granlund has been here 5 minutes, can’t put that on Lavy. Turris fing sucks, not sure what happened there, fair to put some that on Lavy. The offense is my biggest gripe outside of the PP. They spread the puck around the boards and refuse to use the center ice. It’s maddening.
Joey was more productive before. Turris was more productive before. Granlund was more productive before. The system depends on the dmen to score and when they can’t, the offense is trash
Yeah I know, that's what I'm saying. The JOFA line overall didn't have a good year but Johansen did. That line had a total of 4 points in the playoffs, and the goal Forsberg scored wasn't even set up by anyone. Pure individual effort. He was very good. The team MVP, just because you aren’t personally lighting the lamp doesn’t mean you aren’t playing elite hockey.

When he was in Columbus he didn’t have two goal scorers like Arvy and Forsberg on his line. He doesn’t have to score goals, and that’s not his game. He has one season of 30+ goals, then another 26 tally year. That’s it. Not his game.I’ll take his CBJ production over what he’s done since.
JOFA line got massacred when it counted. That was an absolutely awful effort and someone needs to pay for it.
If you go back to the Stanley cup run, 2 of our top 3 goal scorers were Dmen (Josi and Ellis). If they (Dmen) aren’t scoring, this system isn’t productive.
Not a very good year for JOFA? They still tallied a lot of points. Arvy set the franchise record, RJ had a career year in assists and Filip scored 50 in 64 games in a year that he wasn’t healthy. What would be a good year iyo?Yeah I know, that's what I'm saying. The JOFA line overall didn't have a good year but Johansen did. @LotteryPick is right in that the Preds' offense was very perimeter-oriented, particularly in the playoffs. I don't know to what extent that is the Preds' poor play and to what extent it is the opposition forcing us into that play.
Arvy's franchise record is a function of the Preds never having an elite goalscorer in the history of the team. Having 34 goals be your franchise record is really low and kind of embarrassing, IMO.Not a very good year for JOFA? They still tallied a lot of points. Yeah the line s hit themselves in the playoffs, it happens. The defense was far more worrisome than the full strength offense. Our vaulted defensemen were outplayed by the Dallas D.
True re: the record.Arvy's franchise record is a function of the Preds never having an elite goalscorer in the history of the team. Having 34 goals be your franchise record is really low and kind of embarrassing, IMO.
Forsberg was on pace for 36 goals if he played a full season, but he didn't (neither did Arvy) and I still think Forsberg could/should be a 40+ goal scorer. It isn't a matter of a lack of talent.
