What was good about it? Lol. The whole season last was terrible too. White walkers can’t swim or cross water but they can scuba dive down and hook up a chain to a dragon? Also how the hell did Jamie and brahn make it back to Kings Landing after almost getting burned? Just swim back
Oh no, Hank is giving GOT takes now

It's rare to find 1...and now here I see we have 3...THREE people collectively "together" that have not watched Game of Thrones :eek::eek:
It's about dragons and stuff...right. Looks like Lord of the Rings to me, and I was only able to see the very first movie. When I was younger I did like Dungeons and Dragons, but then I grew up...lol

You’re in your safe element here on this all grown up board.

I actually liked last nights episode. Particularly loved the dynamic of the the crew that was sitting around the fire all night. Maybe that’s just because 2 of my favorite characters (Tyrion and Tormund) were together at the same and had me laughing. Especially Tormund. The next 4 episodes will all be over 70 min with 2 of them being over 80 minutes. There will be plenty of battle left so I’m not worried about tying up some loose ends and seeing some favorite characters together for what could be the last time.

Davos is very underrated in said dynamic. “I think I’ll have that drink now.” joins last season’s “This is Jon Snow.” in understated genius.

They ran out of source material with the books a couple of seasons ago, so the story quality has dropped a little bit.

Wrong...That was beautifully done. I know a lot of great characters, characters I have spent over a decade are doomed and will not live past the next episode. I don't understand why folks like you are so impatient and can't wait to get it over with, it is all death, blood, guts and darkness from here on out. I thought this was done perfectly...I feel exactly like I did before the battles of Helms Deep and Minas Tirith.

As Gandalf said best to Pippin about waiting for the battle.."It is the deep breath before the plunge"

Now I'm sad, I doubt what happens the rest of this series is in anyway going to please me. Martin, Dan and DB have told us from the beginning.."If you think this has a happy ending...then you haven't been paying attention"

I'm not a nihilist, I don't like movies or shows with sad endings, but I do enjoy a well told story though, I just hope this one doesn't let me down too badly.
Yeah I don’t get the hate on this one either. A lot of characters are gonna bite the dust over the next 2-3 episodes and last night’s episode was basically the culmination of 7 seasons worth of character development for most of the important characters in the show.

I think this episode did a good job of:

Wrapping up the threads of why all the characters in Winterfell are there and what many of them mean to each other. It showed the weight of many of the relationships these characters have formed throughout years of shared traumas.

Showing just how out of place Dany is in the North on multiple levels. Not only is she basically a stranger to many of the characters assembled in Winterfell, she sees firsthand the bonds of love and trust that many of those surrounding her have. She comments that she’s only had 2 people like that in her life as she’s surrounded by reunions of people who love each other and will fight to the death for one another. You really get a sense of her being completely out of her element on two different levels this episode, and it made her reaction to Jon at the end that much more interesting.

It really is, I hope they realize that they are rolling out a hugely expensive prequel...probably wouldn't be too wise to piss off half the fanbase by murdering everybody. Only weirdo nihilists want to see everybody dead and westeros nuked into oblivion.

Hey I’m a kind of a weirdo nihilist and I don’t want that! Just because I don’t believe in any inherent cosmic meaning or purpose to life doesn’t mean I think every story should be utterly bleak.

I’m sure there’s a gap between our beliefs that can’t exactly be bridged, but I do think you could accept (if not totally understand) that for some people who not believing in an inherent purpose, meaning, or plan to existence actually leads to a deeper value of things like love and hope. If the universe isn’t providing an all encompassing reason for hope or love, it makes the love and hope we find and create on our own that much more special 😊

I wasn’t a huge fan of the episode mainly because it was a lot of nostalgia porn between existing characters and didnt advance anything. I knew the battle of winterfell was going to be episode 3 so I didn’t expect any action, but I was hoping to maybe get more insight into the Night King, a bigger confrontation between Jon/Dany, or anything that moved the story. Instead the majority of the episode was interactions between characters where they only expressed thoughts/feelings we knew they already had.

Like I said, never watched because I don't have HBO.
But everything you just said makes sound better than any reality show on TV. 😅

I mean, he's not wrong though. There have been a few moments where need a higher level of willful suspension of disbelief.
I don’t mind suspending disbelief for a fantasy series when it comes to things like Arya becoming a little too much of badass assassin or Theon rescuing his sister a little too easily. Fantasy series usually start of with seemingly normal characters who get thrust into overwhelming situations and become great heroes in the process. It’s tropey and all, but par for the course and part of the fun of fantasy stories.

Some things were done pretty sloppily once they ran out of source material, though. Especially with how fast some characters were able to seemingly teleport across the seven kingdoms in half an episode. And the Dorne plotline. They really screwed the pooch on that one, but it was more bad writing and storytelling than asking for too much suspension of disbelief.

You trying to say dragons and wights aren’t scientifically feasible? 🤨

"Willful suspension of disbelief" = dragons, sure.. But when Jaime tried to kill Dany after the dragon got speared and Bron tackles him into the water for them to swim across a lake in full armor, now I'm having to wrap my mind around everyone being Michael Phelps.
