Wrong...That was beautifully done. I know a lot of great characters, characters I have spent over a decade are doomed and will not live past the next episode. I don't understand why folks like you are so impatient and can't wait to get it over with, it is all death, blood, guts and darkness from here on out. I thought this was done perfectly...I feel exactly like I did before the battles of Helms Deep and Minas Tirith.

As Gandalf said best to Pippin about waiting for the battle.."It is the deep breath before the plunge"

Now I'm sad, I doubt what happens the rest of this series is in anyway going to please me. Martin, Dan and DB have told us from the beginning.."If you think this has a happy ending...then you haven't been paying attention"

I'm not a nihilist, I don't like movies or shows with sad endings, but I do enjoy a well told story though, I just hope this one doesn't let me down too badly.
I agree completely! I don't want it to end bad but we know it will. This was our goodbye. We won't have time in the next episodes becausee we will be losing them all at basically the same time.

SOS = Strength of schedule, TOM = Turnover margin for game, OLINE = Adjusted line yards from Football Outsiders, TQBR = ESPN QB Rating for #! QB, PR = NCAA Passer Rating for #1 QB, RO = Rushing Offense, PO = Passing Offense, TO = Total Offense, SO = Scoring Offense, DLINE = Adjusted line yards from Football Outsiders, RD = Rushing Defense, PD = Passing Defense, DPR = Defensive NCAA Passer Rating, TD = Total Defense, SD = Scoring Defense, AVG = Average of the 13 National Rankings.

I agree we need the most improvement on both sides of the line of scrimmage and given the rankings for our lines last year I expect more than marginal improvement.

Having said that, I think we might agree that the metrics used by Football Outsiders may tend to mask deficiencies in other areas of our units on both sides of the ball. For example, if our quarterback is prone to “holding the ball too long” and taking sacks this metric is going to penalize the offensive line. A similar argument might be made based on the quality of our running backs. Dropped passes by receivers and tight ends will also penalize the offensive line in this metric because those dropped passes take away from otherwise positive production. Poor play-calling may also contribute to negative consequences when looking at this performance metric for our offensive line.

On the other side of the ball the defensive line is going to be penalized by the metric published by Football Outsiders for the quality of play of both the linebackers, who are arguably the primary playmakers in the front seven of our defense, and the secondary players. As with the other side of the ball, I think it’s also possible that poor play-calling on the defensive side of the ball can adversely affect this performance metric.

We are often reminded that football is a TEAM sport and that it takes all 11 guys on that side of the ball to make that unit productive. I think our biggest opportunity and our biggest challenge is to have some measure of improvement from each and every position on the field. It is not unreasonable, in my opinion, to expect that the additive effect of all that individual improvement, especially given the perceived quality of our teachers, should lead to a SIGNIFICANT improvement of the overall product we put on the field this year.

The way I’m looking at this is Butch Jones won 7 games (including the bowl win) with his first full recruiting class and that was with a lot of Dooley’s players augmented with a bunch of freshmen. We probably also should have beat Florida that year but our coach pulled a Butch Jones. At the time we were informed that we had the best staff in America. Granted, Georgia will be tougher this year than they were in 2014 so we may lose by more than 3 this year. Florida, I’m not sold given the state of their offensive line and key losses on defense. Mississippi State, Missouri, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt lost key players. We get South Carolina at home and BYU doesn’t have a Will Grier. Alabama is Alabama.

At least some of us believe it’s possible we do in fact likely have a better staff than what we had in 2014. This is year two for Pruitt; I expect a remarkable turnaround in our football team this year, else the temptation for a lot of people to suspect that it is groundhog day all over again is probably going to rear its ugly head and not only with fans, but with potential recruits as well.

I hope we can win at least 9, maybe 10 games this year. If we can pull that off the road ahead gets a hell of a lot easier. jmo.

Idk. I agree we have a better staff, certainly. But so does the rest of the SEC imo.
2014 gave us 6 reg season wins over
A 3-9 transitioning Vandy team
A 5-7 Kentucky team
And the most inexplicable of all, a version of Steve Spurrier that couldn't beat Butch Jones.

So those 3 and 3 filler cupcakes. With the difference in competition, I think even the same record, 6-6, would already be a better job than what Jones accomplished in year 2. I expect better than 6-6 but 9 or 10 wins against the upgraded competition would be much more than "a better staff", it would be coaching job of the decade imo.

Last night's episode:
A lull in action is like a roller coaster. There has to be the calm or the storm never feels as impactful. What seems drawn out is set up for the entire experience.
We don't realize how important these moments are in our reactions to finales. Whether in the deaths of people that we've come to know, or in their victories.

If I'm wrong, it's probably because I don't have HBO and have never seen GoT. But was feeling left out of the conversation 😳😄

I do not believe we will win 9 games. In the 7 camp.

That was a pretty spot on analysis. hahahaha

nailed it.

I need a new Vol decal for my new truck. Y’all got any good ones? Don’t want the power T. Have thought about the rifleman, but don’t want the Vols under it and can only find it in 3”. Would like it bigger than that. What do you guys have?
I live in Georgia, which is kind-of necessary for mine.

Do you guys think JG threw the ball to the receiver in the best position here? I mean the defense early on keys on Palmer, perhaps because they know JG is going for the safe option, meanwhile DWA in about 0.5 seconds comes wide open well behind the already committed secondary. I think if he gets the ball to DWA and if DWA will keep his ass in bounds then he's going a long ways down the field. I like JG. Obviously, he's a tough kid but I don't think he's very aggressive at trying to make plays. I think both younger guys are probably more aggressive. I think we need to be aggressive if we're going to score some points. On this play he had good protection. Anyway, jmo.

Rewatching the game now see your point.
JG still had a clean pocket and DWA was wide open for a huge gain behind Palmer. Off screen defender wasn't near DWA.
My guess, Chaney is pushing the "get the ball out quickly" system and JG is focused on that. We'll likely see more of the missed deep ball opportunities but it's a trade off that we probably have to make. We really need to get the ball out fast given our protection issues.

But we can't follow it up next play, in real games, by throwing 2 yds when we need 4. That destroys any advantage the quick passing game gave us.

Ok...imma need you to expound on this..I thought it was excellent and I will never understand that sentiment...just curious, maybe you can give me another way of looking at it.
Depending on what you appreciate. Always thought the characters on this show and their dialogue were fascinating. The fans that only love dragons and blood weren’t going to like it.

the sentiment is that there's only 6 or 7 episodes this season (forget which) and it feels like there's A LOT left on the table....with two episodes devoted to setting up the battle at Winterfel.

i get that. that was my initial reaction as well watching.

but why was it excellent? well, we've watched this show for a long time, and this is the first time since season one many of these characters have been together at the same time. so seeing the dynamic now, knowing the history of each....it just adds to the already existing tensions as these folks supposedly unite to fight a common enemy. i liked it a lot. we've waited a long time for some of these people to meet up again, and here we are. i'm glad they did this episode the way they did.

now, would it have been personally satisfying had Bran killed Jamie on the spot? yep........... but it was still cool to see them speak to each other....

anyway....i get why people are miffed. i'm kinda ready for some bad azz battles and some story stopping kills as well.

but i'm glad they gave us these two episodes to see how some characters basically wrap up with one on another.....felt like a good bye episode for several.......which i'm cool with.

agree, and is that a direct correlation to OL issues already identified or a reaction to what JG brings to the table in terms of seeing the field pre and post snap? they'll get those deep ball misses on tape. they'll use that, and at some point in time, JG will have to be able to get thru a progression, and not be a 1 read guy.....or teh OL is going to have to get to the point where they give him that extra 1/2 second or 2....

have to be more than an underneath passing game, and that won't happen if we're just flat missing on guys running free behind defenders.

not an indictment on anyone here, just an observation.

Very well said and I felt the exact same way. I thought this a goodbye episode for the characters and the dialog was very well written. The whole fireside chat was great and to be honest all of them might die next week.
