This is at least a more reasonable take than hur dur baseball sucks cuz lots of games.Great game to play as a kid and I enjoy watching it up to the college level. I respect the players skills and it can be exciting in the right playoff environment but the level of pitching in MLB makes it difficult to enjoy. Stretch that out over a half a year and it loses all entertainment value.
Throw in the fact that most of the best athlete's don't play the sport and I lose all interest.
It actually takes a degree of intelligence to understand the beauty and intricacies of the great game of baseball. So I really do understand some of the post from certain posters concerning the subject of baseball. I mean they talk about mouth feels like they have accomplished something great.
Frankly, it has a very high generational rate. You have a much higher chance of playing and loving baseball than any other sport of you had a family member play or get you into it. I actually get why people cant sit down and watch it on a nightly basis, even if I was giving BGS a hard time about it. I just love the anticipation aspect of it and there is just something about watching a game with family that is relaxing and comfortable. Plus, you have something to do every night all summer. I get it though, I really do.It doesn't take much intelligence to understand. One of the more simple, straightforward sports. It does take a great deal of commitment to a lack of entertainment to watch.
I get that some people love it but I don't have time in my life to pay attention to something that provides very, very little excitement.
If I'm going to take time away from paying attention to my wife and kids it better be something I'm passionate about or that they can enjoy with me.
It is the sport of generations that didn't have as many entertainment options and had more time on their hands.
So I’m trying to figure this out. In this play from the O&W game, both Crouch at LB and the right side DE (I think a walk-on offensive lineman who apparently was moved to DL for this game) go unblocked. The five guys on the offensive line do a pretty good job on their blocks. I mean actually I don’t see how anyone could really complain all that much, at least in regards to our success at blocking both defensive tackles and the left side defensive end.
The defense looks to be in a 4-man front. I don’t even know which gap Banks is supposed to go through. It could be the left side A gap or the right side B gap. Niehaus is at RT and while his block wasn’t really all that pretty in my view, he was effective enough that his guy wasn’t in on the play and probably would have never had a shot at Banks. They’re not worried about the right side defensive end. Okay, so he’s no Clowney. I get that, but the linebackers are the playmakers so who is supposed to pick up Crouch or even Ignont?
If I’m being fair to the offensive line I’m thinking they did their job. I mean they are told who and how to block on each play by the line calls. It looks like to me they were blocking with purpose and determination. I’m not sure how our line calls are handled. I think the center is supposed to make the calls based on the play call or defensive look or maybe he gets the line calls from the sideline. I don’t know.
I’m trying to figure out how do you run the ball in the SEC with no 2nd level blockers. I guess you average 3.70 yards per carry, and give up enough tackles for loss to rank 14th in the conference and 116th nationally. I’ve watched this play over a dozen times and for the life of me I can’t figure out what we’re trying to do. I’m left to suspect we either don’t know what we’re doing or we just suck by design. I really don’t get that because as our rankings suggest, this is one of our favorite plays. We run it a lot and it almost never works, at least not for our offense.
In this particular play I don’t think we can say the offensive line didn’t do what they were told to do. We don’t know that. If they did the wrong thing then I think they apparently don’t know what to do and that in my view becomes a coaching issue. If they did do what they were supposed to do and the play gets blown up as often as it does then I think it sucks by design.
If I’m the linebacker, I looking at the first steps for the offensive linemen, the slowest guys on the field. Once I have an inkling they’re going to open a gap for me and the ball is still 5 yards deep in the backfield I’m blasting through that gap so I can pad my stats. We have a TE lined up on the left side of the offensive line but as the play shows there’s no way in hell he’s getting to the linebacker before the play is stuffed out for a loss.
From the other side Crouch looks really explosive and instinctual. He made a damn good play but then again, he had absolutely no opposition. I don’t know what to think here.

Every single sport is “simple and straight forward” if you try to dumb it down and make it that way.It doesn't take much intelligence to understand. One of the more simple, straightforward sports. It does take a great deal of commitment to a lack of entertainment to watch.

I really hope JG improves enough to get us to a bowl game this year. He needs to be hitting those swing passes and back shoulder throws. Stat lines like 16-21 for 165 1 TDS 0 INTs seems to be the norm.
