How many of those pass plays actually traveled 30+ yards in the air tho? I charted the South Carolina game and the total combined air yardage of JGs 27 completions was 14 yards. I was subtracting the yards behind the LOS but it’s still crazy.

I’ve talked about it before but he’s a flick thrower And that causes him to float balls and they hang up in there and cause a WR to have to slow down and wait on it. I remember this several times.
And yet the stats suggest otherwise. He was serviceable last year. I'm hopeful he takes a leap forward with Chaney as his coach this year. But, you don't like Chaney, either.

Not sure that is tracked, but it seemed oike if we made a long pass play, it was typically a long PA pass. Not many YAC last year that I remember.

USC was definitely a completely different gameplan from any other it seemed.

He'll never let facts get in the way of his hot takes. Jg improved in literally every possible category last year. Does he still need a lot of work? Absolutely. Is there any evidence he can't keep improving? Absolutely not. Is it possible that Chaney and weinke can maximize his development? I would think that is probable and even likely. Will that stop everyone from chiefing on jg every chance they get? I would say that is far less likely.

It’s not that i think he’s awful or anything but i would rather see banks or a newcomer.

I think when you look at our team it’s the top 40 players or so that will determine who we are, 20 each on both sides of the ball. I was playing around with the breakdown and this is what I came up with for competitive games. Obviously, more players can play in blowouts and against cupcakes but in our toughest games we need to ONLY have our best players on the field. For example, and I may not be remembering this accurately, but it was my sense in 2012 that Pittman pretty much only played 6 offensive linemen. (Note: I’m not including guys that may only contribute on special teams units).

QB 2
RB 3
WR 5
TE 2
OL 8
Total = 20

DL 5
ILB 3
OLB 3
CB 3
STAR 2
SS 2
FS 2
Total = 20

When I was putting names to these numbers, I thought on the edge in a few places there wasn’t really a clear cut choice. For example, I have Chandler as RB1, Banks moving up to RB2 (Power back), and Gray potentially (hopefully?) getting the edge over Jordan for RB3.

The guys who are here now have 4 & ½ months to improve and get ready for kickoff. The guys coming in the end of May/first of June will have 3 months. Not accounting for transfers that may happen, we have 21 guys on our roster or could have on our fall roster that did not participate in spring practice.

Another example, I think we have 11 positions on the offensive line and we’re looking for something like our best 8 guys to cover those positions. I’m thinking we need 4 tackles (Wright, Morris, J. Johnson, and TBD), 4 guards (J. Johnson, Carvin, R. Johnson, and Calbert), and 3 centers (R. Johnson, Carvin, and Kennedy if he can come back, probably Lampley if he doesn’t). I know a lot of people are banking on Kennedy being back to starting form by the fall. I’m not. I was banking on Hall last year and it didn’t really ever pan out. I’d really love to get Trey back but I don’t think we can bank on that either. I do think we need to find another Tackle. Pruitt had some pretty positive things to say about Niehaus but I guess I’m in a wait and see mode.

One thing I noticed as I was playing around with this “Top 40” exercise is that the better we get in some spots the younger we become. While youth can in certain positions be somewhat of a liability I guess that’s to be expected right now since we’re obviously in transition from Fail mode to Pass mode in regard to fielding a quality SEC football team. jmo.

There are some sites that will track average completed air yards, Average Intended Air Yards and average air yards differential, but not for free like the NFL. At least not that I can find.

Need a little Vol nation power. Had surgery last Monday, had a lesion removed from my chest and go back to doctor Wed to find out if it was malignant or not. Had it for a while and procrastinated till I went to ER for a kidney stone and nurse saw it, went to get a Dr to examine and referred me to another doc.
So would appreciate good thoughts till Wed. TIA

The game plan for the USCjr game was to dink and dunk because the OL could not pass protect. The game plan for the Auburn game was to throw deep. You picked the USCjr game to make your point, but it was the game plan for that 1 game only. It worked pretty well until the defense couldn't stop USCjr in the 2nd half.

The deep passing game is way down the list on worries for this upcoming season.
1) Pass protection from OT specifically is biggest worry.
2) DL is 2nd worry (stopping run and pass rush)
.

.
.
3) JG pocket awareness and not holding the ball too long

He made a statement on both:
"Averaged second most YPCs last yr. And quietly put up the most YPCs in the O&W game."

He is correct Jordan led YPC in O&W.

I like Jordan too. Will be interesting to see how Gray mixes in.
Yes, I did. Lol, good grief.
Should have mad a longer post I guess. I didn't count anomalies for say London against Utep and ETSU.

I assumed (my bad) everyone was talking about our competition, not running up the numbers against cupcakes. London did have 1 long run against FL. That's it.
