The Atlanta Braves

Really don't get it. The most basic task of a GM in today's baseball has got to be constantly ferreting around for serviceable bullpen arms. And yet somehow they took a pass on it.
AA took a 1950s approach to staffing a bullpen, like he's expecting the starters to go 9 every game and bullpens are made up of "just guys" who you throw in there when the game is out of hand.

We gave Viz 5 million knowing he has shoulder issues and didn’t do a thing else. 🤮
It’s really weird

In theory, you can see a good bullpen of Viz, Minter, O’Day, Venters, Winkler, Biddle, Sobotka, Gohara/Fried IMO

But that’s a perfect world with zero depth. Max (rightfully) earns a rotation spot. Gohara and Viz on the shelf, as could have been anticipated. Minter hurt in spring and not great. O’Day out. Winkler in AAA and can’t throw a strike. Sobotka, not good. Biddle, not great.

Everything that could go wrong in the pen has, most should have been planned for and was able to be anticipated. We literally assumed best case scenario approach on the bullpen and did nothing.

I am not against having a rotation of Julio, Gaus, Soroka, Touki and Newk and using Folty and Fried in the Hader role if you think they are capable of that.

Kind of funny how we've been crushing Luke Jackson on here, but he's about the only decent arm in the pen right now

He said he just wasn’t sharp last night so I’m hoping that’s the reason
And let’s talk about this....

He wasn’t as sharp as we’ve seen him be - sure. But he absolutely went toe to toe with Robbie freakin Ray last night - without his best stuff - and would have been in line for the win had Ender caught that ball.
