My only issue with what Rick Barnes said is this. If it was only about the buyout, then why the raise up to the third highest in the nation, unless, it's also about the money. The rest is just realizing what you just said out loud and trying to iron out the wrinkles you realize you just made. Never tell your girlfriend she's the hottest girl you could get, she'll soon realize you've got your eyes out for something better, if only for the thrill of flirtation, unless you can upgrade.
Oh god people...GET LAID OR SOMETHING!

Y’all think Ricky Tiki Tavi is just pissed because he couldn’t get out of here so he decided belittle UT today? Also, seems pretty clear he put out a message today to all of the college basketball programs that’s he available and ready to deal with any future openings? I just can’t wrap my mind around his approach today, had to be strategic. No way he’s that dumb!

I think he wants to be here and really enjoys it here, but he did straight up say if the $$ was there then he would’ve left. So, he doesn’t want to be here quite as much as everyone may have thought. It’s a pride thing. More confirmation that UT men’s hoops isn’t a true blue blood / destination job. That’s not something you want to hear from your current HC.
Agree. But the caveat to that is how Barnes perceives UCLA. Not ONLY how he SUPPOSEDLY perceives TN. If you believe what he said, outside the true blue blood programs, he's not leaving TN, just to leave TN... So I'll worry about this again should UNC, Duke, UK, or KU comes calling...

again, even as revered as he apparently thinks that job is, there's still a financial line he wouldn't cross to leave TN, Once TN stepped to the plate...

I read that UCLA offered Barnes a 4 million dollar bonus to put toward his buyout but that taxes would have eaten like 1.4 million of it and Barnes didn't want any out of pocket expense towards his buyout. UCLA wouldn't raise that bonus amount to cover the whole buyout after taxes.

That west coast article, if accurate, leads me to think it might have been his wallet and not God that kept Barnes a Vol.

First step to becoming a blue blood is having an AD willing to pay to keep the coaches who start putting you at #1 in the nation. Clemson has possibly put themselves at the tops of CFB by keeping Dabo around. If Barnes has UT beating UK, grabbing some SEC titles, and maybe a national title in the next decade then UT will be quite the destination by the time he leaves.

Yup. Committed to winning. We've waited a long time for everyone to be in the same page over there..If we're not yet, we're as close as we've been to it in a long time.

Something something Camel something something needle

What a phony

Lebron would shut down jordan. He would manhandle him. Kareem n chamb... Psssshhhhh
Isn't that a problen with the whole discussion? I'm not sure a 6'6 215 lb SG would be guarding a 6'8 250 SF. Jordan had elite defense, but he didn't typically guard guys of that size and versatility.

Can't find the original article on it, but this one says basically the same thing.

"In the meantime, Barnes’ contract negotiations with UCLA hit a snag when the Bruins insisted on giving him a $4 million signing bonus while requiring him to pay his Tennessee buyout of $5 million himself. Barnes would’ve been taxed for the $4 million — and California taxes aren’t cheap."

Really? He could leave anytime he wanted. If he wanted UCLA bad enough, he would have taken it. Rick has plenty of money.

Exactly. BVS is running rampant on here. People are acting like jilted lovers when they should be happy he stayed. UT now has a chance to become relevant at basketball for an extended period.
