Depends on your perspective I guess.See the thing is before Barnes went and ran his mouth UCLA was the only school anyone could argue looked bad in this situation.
Low expectations. We'll probably be picked by the media to finish 13th in the conference and you know what that means. They won't know what hit them. jmotifwiw.
My perspective on Barnes as a coach has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not I think what he said was dumb. I think he’s a great coach and will continue to win games here. Still think what he said was dumb, and my evidence is the negative publicity it created and the subsequent arguments within the fan base. Not hard to follow.Depends on your perspective I guess.
If you think Barnes is a good coach and TN is fortunate to still have him, then this matters less and less.
If you think Barnes is overrated and just good enough to field teams that can get in the tourney, and that TN could do better, then it matters more and more.
In the end results will dictate, as they always have.
It's not like our expectations suddenly changed. He's built a program that's finished in the top two in the conf twice and been to two conf title games and b2b NCAA tourneys.
Did we not expect him to maintain and build on that before this?
Rhetorical question. Of course we did.
All this is, is fuel for those that don't care for him should he fail...
If he succeeds, then I guess everybody wins?
Agreed. Would have been better to phrase those comments a million different ways.your words produce negative publicity? Hey, don’t say that again. Probably wasn’t smart to begin with.
I think we're in the same page... Mostly... LolMy perspective on Barnes as a coach has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not I think what he said was dumb. All that is fair. On a personal level I don’t care about what he said, but without totally separating from the public sphere - there is too much negativity out there for me not to view what he said as stupid and unnecessary.Agreed. Would have been better to phrase those comments a million different ways.
But that's a function of the hot take culture we live in, not an actual referendum on our program or what Barnes actually thinks about ut. Something he spoke on, at length, during the PC.
but hasn't been talked about at all here, Twitter, finebaum, ESPN, or whatever other media/social media outlet that gains more from the reaction than the whole truth...
I really appreciate the analysis you share with us.So I've updated my starting lineups post spring practice. Both sides of the ball now have players average age at 20 years old. The talent average on offense is 0.9294 and on defense it's 0.9284.

That's fine. And I agree, it was definitely unnecessary. I just don't care cause I feel pretty confident in everything he said... Not just the Twitter hot take. All that is fair. I think he wants to be here and really enjoys it here, but he did straight up say if the $$ was there then he would’ve left. So, he doesn’t want to be here quite as much as everyone may have thought. It’s a pride thing. More confirmation that UT men’s hoops isn’t a true blue blood / destination job. That’s not something you want to hear from your current HC.That's fine. And I agree, it was definitely unnecessary. I just don't care cause I feel pretty confident in everything he said... Not just the Twitter hot take.
And I can't control the rest.
It's frustrating obviously.... That people think he really doesn't want to be here lol.
But whatever.... People gonna do what people do.
