Did the coaches forget the new 40 second play clock in the final minutes of the 4th quarter. As soon as we punted I said the game was over by basic math. I really think that Fulmer made a common mistake in his math: 2 minutes doesn't equal 200 seconds, it equal 120 seconds. Meaning, with or without an auburn first down, it was extremely unlikely we would've had time to return a punt and score. The reason I say "common mistake is the people I was watching the game with almost made the same mistake. It was a lot easier to figure when the clock was 30 seconds, you get 2 plays per minute no matter what and it didn't require much math. If you put a gun to Fulmer's head, I am convinced he would admit that he screwed the pooch on that one.

Wouldn't surprise me at all. Our heads from coaching all the way down to the players just don't seem to be on board this year.

I was waiting on this thread...I still do not understand why in the world he did not go for it on fourth because we could not get the ball back so he basically gave up...I do not know why he did that...MORON!

Auburn converted a 3rd and 5 with 2:04 left on the clock. Had we stopped them, we would have gotten the ball near midfield with about 1:55 to play and no timeouts.

why do we burn a timeout after an injury timeout, why to we burn a time out when the player was knocked out of bounds that stoped the clock? piss poor coaching

Part of the new clock rule states that when a player goes out of bounds, the game clock restarts once the ball is whistled ready for play.

The injury occurred on an in bounds play, so the clock was going to run as soon as the player got off the field.

Also the new rule is that the clock starts with the "Ready to play" signal even on out of bounds plays when there is over 2 minutes to go, so that's why we had to burn the last one.

With or without UT's record this year, I do not like these rule changes regarding the clock.

Willingham was quoted as saying the coaches told them to watch out for the deep ball on the 3rd and 5...so he played off.

Agreed, it's too easy to sit on a lead at the end of a game. Way too many plays and pocessions have been eliminated as well.

I agree. At the very least they need to put a 2 minute warning in. The way the rules are now you can effectively kill the clock with as much as 2:30 left. It's a little overboard.

that we get the ball back if it wasnt for these stupid clock rules. i doubt that it makes a difference but just saying. hey then we mite have had a 12th chance to win the game lol.

according to the CBS stats, we would be getting at least 4 more 3 and outs per game

which makes no sense to me -- a first down kills just as badly in that situation as a TD.

FWIW i seem to recall one of the CBS crew saying that CPF called it correctly based on the new rules re the clock and how things change inside of 2 minutes.
