I'm as confident in our staff as I have been in the last two decades. That's not an exaggeration either. I'm 99.999% convinced that we have the staff, coordinators and, MOST importantly, HC, that will bring this program back to respectability and into the annual discussion for the SEC East crown...which, by extension, brings us back into the national spotlight.

It's going to take another year, maybe two, to build the team that JP wants. Butch had us built for the MAC, not the SEC. It's going to take time to build but, I think we get some respectable SEC wins between now and then.

I can't recall a time since Fulmer's heyday that I wasn't concerned about the staff.

Get some shades, boys. The future looks bright.

It’s not an excuse if you’re sending the team a message. If Rick Barnes says to a player “if you don’t do it right you’ll be on the bench” is that an excuse? No, of course not. And that’s what Pruitt was saying.

Pruitt has openly told fans that our sideline doesn't look like the sideline of our opponents and we can't compete until that is resolved. It's a true statement. It's also an excuse.

Here's an example.

Pruitt: Vols' size, practice habits could explain injury issues

Barnes telling a player to do it right or be benched isn't an excuse. It's not directed at the fans.

Y'all gotta get better at context. Pruitt is telling the truth. He's also telling you why his coaching wasn't to blame for last year. If Barnes hops up on stage and starts telling us that we missed the Elite Eight because Admiral wasn't executing the offense correctly, I'll agree that it's an excuse. The same way it would be an excuse if Pruitt was delivering his message to only players and not the fans who are holding him accountable.

It's simple to me. If Pruitt is going to bother giving a real answer, then he's going to be honest.
It's easy (too easy imo) to call an honest answer an "excuse" *if you're looking to criticize.

Two kinds of excuses.
1.Justify - "I have a legitimate excuse for not attending, I was in the hospital"

2. Get out of blame - "I'm sick of his excuses"

Given VN's history with the word, we know how it's used most often here. But Pruitt has said "That's on me, aight, I've got to do a better job in ____". No way I'm buying that he's an excuse maker. Just brutally honest at times.
Perfect

Unless you don't have the players to compete. Surely you're not saying a good coach could make me a good football player. I'll be honest. If I was a male aged 20 with a football physique, I would be running away from contact.

I'm saying that complaining about the cards your dealt in poker is an excuse.

I think if Grant and/or Bone leave Ihnen might be added to the 2019 class. If both leave I think the 2nd scholarship would be filled with a grad transfer.

Yeah, I'm the same...how many of those moments aren't focused on and then a different narrative can also be made.

But I'm also a fan of the game is over so is the broadcast...I'd rather not watch any of the before or after festivities with sporting events. No need for me to hear the national anthem again, I'm fine with the introductions for basketball because it's cool and tip-off is immediately after.
Well, just turn off the tv. I like all that.

according to the last 2 pages, everyone here is assumed a male until proven otherwise? women are 51%, so surely we have like 5-10% at least here, somewhere. and like 1% trans. and .1% hermaphrodite or intersex/ambiguius genitalia. I assume the latter until one proves otherwise.

Wait, so your default assumption is that everyone here has ambiguous genitalia?

Huh.

I like it.

So apparently Elvis works the night shift at UT Medical. At first, I thought it was Latino Elvis but no, the King has just been spending his time out of the limelight working on his tan. He was going by the name of Roy, Bob, or Tom or something like that but I'd know that hair and those mutton chops anywhere.

Now, don't go hitting him up for autographs and stuff (he's keeping it low key) but I thought y'all should know.

If Dr. Noland is hired by UT, I will be very happy for Tennessee and VERY sad for my alma mater.

I was able to get a tour of the stadium and the renovated Freedom Hall for work recently. I can't wait to come up and catch a game this fall now that I'm not working in college sports and have my Saturdays back.

His name is Tom and I used to work with him. You will not find a better person on this planet. He gave comfort to so many people that came through the hospital, rather it be praying with them or singing for patients. One of the best people I have ever known.

On the subject of excuses and blame, I remembered this moment:

Back in 2002/2003 I have the privileged of meeting Coach Fulmer at a speaking engagement. I was super excited and nervous like you couldn't imagine when I got the chance to meet him, shake his hand, talk to him for a couple minutes. He was a very gracious person and so down to earth. He really gave you the impression that he truly felt he was no better than anyone else there, and that was something I found very impressive.

That said, he told a great story, I thought you guys would enjoy (and I'm sure many have heard it before):

He said after a Florida loss in 90s (can't remember specifically which) he was going to the Athletic Center the next morning to watch film, break it down with the coaches, and then meet with the team to discuss the game. Coach said he stopped at the same gas station he'd stop at every morning, get him a coffee, and was gassing up before he left. He said there was an old man getting gas next to him, and the old man started up a conversation.

"How you doing today?"
Coach replied, "Doing ok, you?"
"Aight I guess, not feeling good after that loss yesterday."
Coach says, "yeah, that wasn't a good game."
Old man fires back, "you know who's fault it is? It's that Fulmer's fault"
Coach replies back to the old man, "you know what, you're right. It was."

I'm so glad we have Phil back with us. Love him or hate him during his time as OUR coach, I hope we can agree know, he's a treasure and a blessing to us as Vols.

He has a real good relationship with Fulmer also, right?
Also, I just gotta say, people can hate on Fulmer all day, but that man has done more for athletics in one year than the rest did in 10. We may not be seeing the results on the football field yet, but I’m confident with the staff he’s been able to bring in that we will be soon. Locking Barnes in and giving him the support he needs will pay dividends as well. Barnes will keep winning now that it’s rolling, and he’s gonna make this a very attractive job when he decides to call it quits. If we pull in a chancellor like Nolan who will also support athletics, watch out! I’m pumped for the future. We are so fortunate to have Phil.

He was chatting with someone as I passed by and seemed like a good dude. His hair is fantastic, imo.
