i'd argue that Holly's legacy as a player is every bit as good as Kelly's.

i don't think that matters though, in either case. this will boild down to what kind of leader she is. Holly is an excellent leutenant. not a great captain. no sin in that.

if Kelly is a good leader, the rest will follow. everything else is there.

Holly's playing career was before my time, so I can't speak on her legacy. She's got her number retired so I'm sure she had a stellar career. But I did grow up watching Kellie Jolly for the entirety of her career, all things considered I was introduced to Lady Vols & Pat Summit before I was Phil Fulmer and the football team. I remember the knee surgery and returning to help lead a 10 loss team to win it all, then the bad ankle sprain and her day and a half intensive treatment to rehab enough to return to the court to help win another title.

3 straight championships as a player is on a different level of legacy for me...so from a fan standpoint KJ has always been in my top 5 favorite Lady Vols I've ever seen play. I like the hire, will support the hire, and am very optimistic she can/will get the Lady Vols back to a top 10 level team year in and out.

You don’t know that as a fact, rather it is your opinion. Of course your incessant complaining about UT going cheap took a hit yesterday as CPF delivered. Guess you can complain about hiring Harper instead of going after “insert name here “
Lol. None if this is fact. I'm saying that's what opposing coaches will say when it comes to recruits. Follow the conversation.

All that proves is that a portion of the fanbase is easily butthurt, which we already knew.
Huge leap from looking at Barnes differently than being butt hurt. I'm not butt hurt at all. I love coach Barnes, was one of the few at the time that was 100% on board and thought he was exactly what the program needed. I still appreciate what he's done for this program and what I expect him to do going forward. However my perception of him has changed.

i'm not trying to, nor am i going to, argue the merits of either. i think they're obviously both great players. i'd jsut say w/out Holly, there's a chance there's no Kelly....

anyway...the point was only this....the player legacy wont' dictate how good a coach they will be.

lordy lordy.

and that's still a WEAK negative recruiting tool. he didn't leave for one, and we made a HUGE committment to Rick Barnes. that trumps it. every time.

and you say "til the next offer"....that is a predictive narrative that goes away from what the guy has proven to be at every other stop he's been at...which is the obvious, and factual, counter.

you believe what you want to believe...that's fine. but you believe it because you want to. not because it's based on fact....absent of the truth, you've filled that vacuum with a narrative you want to believe.

Quiet around here regarding Grant. Tightly kept secret
That is not true. I have noticed LOTS of posters on here that are certain of what Grant should and will do about his decision. I assume they have all spoken to him and gotten his perspective on the decision. So with that being true, we already know he is leaving. Science.

Same winning % as Holly, who has had arguably some of the best talent and for sure the best facilities in all of women's college basketball. Maybe Kellie -isn't- an elite coach, but I personally think she's got a better shot at success here than Holly because we already know and have seen Harper coach Xs & Os better...if she had the same talent as Holly I think she'd have quite a few more wins.

The good news, she has her shot to prove that. I've already said it might not have been the best hire that could be made, but it could very well be the best hire for the Lady Vols. Short of Holdsclaw or Parker not many former players have the sort of legacy that Kellie Jolly does.
The question was about restoring Pat's legacy. I think Coach Harper is an above average coach. Nothing more, nothing less. I would expect an elite coach to dominate lower tier conferences (say like Karl Smesko). Coach Harper hasn't done that. I think she can be successful (top 25) with good assistants but I just don't see any evidence that she would restore UT to a Final Four or national championship contender on a regular basis.

CRB needs to take a trip to the Brooks Brothers factory in store in Sevierville. I was talking with one of the sales reps there, and that store sourced some orange (PMS 151) and white striped neckties for some of the football coaches.
My third favorite tie (behind the one I was married in and the one from my former boss and mentor's closet after he passed).

Lots of other schools have concerts at halftime or postgame of their spring game to draw more of a crowd. I think it was Ludadris who came to UGA last year.

With such a push to get fans into the stadium for this year’s spring game - anyone know why UT hasn’t tried something like this before?

LOL, do you think opposing won't use that? It opens the door. Sure on one hand it tells recruits and others Tennessee is committed but on the other hand it opens the door for other coaches to plant the seed that to question Barnes commitment to the school. Both things are true.

It was that Rob Lewis update that made it sound like Barnes wanted out, just a matter of if UCLA would pay the buyout that did it for me

All the Twits postulating on Twitter is what creates all the drama. If folks would quit rooting through dumpsters and listening to everybody's uncle who knows somebody that cleans the upstairs bathrooms in one of the science buildings at UT and just let things play out we could all relax a little. As it is, I made a fortune yesterday buying stock in companies that make antacids and ulcer medications. I'm fittin to retire thanks to VN and our hand wringing.

Well.... you’re welcome

Preface: Not in any way being negative toward you. You make a great point.

My opinion is that it waters down the reason people are in the seats. Are they there as fans of a football game or to get a free seat to see a band? If I’m a player/recruit I want to be the focus and have the support of the fan base. I don’t want to wonder if they came to see our hard work or a band. Or wonder if they even like football at all. Again, just my opinion and not meant to be negative in any way toward you. It’s a valid question.

yeah, but one of them makes a lot less sense.

he stayed. for less money than UCLA offered him. every counter to your arguemnt is stronger. i'd welcome the challenge about Barnes or UT's committment....you know, cause there are actual facts that support the committment level...on both sides.

all you got is a speculation on what might happen if another big offer comes....some day.

we're too cheap to hire good bands?

As far as negative recruiting goes, an opposing coach is going to have to downplay the fact that a traditionally more prestigious basketball program was unable to lure the Vols coach away. Cal can’t brag about that considering Kentucky is tops and is paying him top money. An opposing recruiter would need to show where they turned down a similar opportunity...just to break even. 🙂

Cause Pruitt doesn't like music. Pruitt is a football coach, and the sound of helmets and shoulder pads hitting puts a fire in his loins.
I heard that to set the mood, his wife puts on defensive highlight videos.
