No, but I do think it's easier to recruit there. It's just about opportunities. With Buzz and Musselman in the SEC, it's not getting easier. He would probably get more opportunities at UCLA to go further.

Hilarious that out of all of the coaches in the SEC, ours is the one who tucks his tail and runs.

Good thing March Madness isn’t just SEC teams. As long as you make it to the tourney you have as good a chance as anyone if you’re a legit coach. He couldn’t win the natty with KD or even get past the S16 with this special group so I’m confused why he thinks going to UCLA will somehow make him a better coach.

BOOM

Not gonna waste my time or money on basketball at UT. We are a football school and CBB and CRB with their one and dones and mercenary coaches can KMA.

Well, to be fair, 4 of them got fired, and a 5th one will get fired. Davis and Crean are still new, and Cal is at a blue blood. With Barnes, that's 9 of the 14.

I think he definitely recycles the burnt orange ties.

J/K.

I'm pretty sure UT has made a best and final offer. By going back to Boyd, Fulmer went to bat for Barnes and got the package sweetened. It's a 5-year deal, and they'll bump the salary pool, increase bonuses and add escalators. UCLA can offer more. So Barnes is going to have to make a decision.

I really like Barnes and wanted him to stay. I get his issues-- and I think UT should have listened and resolved the staff salaries a while back. But I think he has backed UT into a corner and that doesn't usually work out well. The timing is terrible for UT and neither Boyd nor Fulmer will forget how this played out. IMO, if he comes back to UT with any other demand or a counter, they'll wish him well and bank the buyout.
I completely agree with you... I know there were some ruffling of the feathers a few times in season about it and thought they should of handled it a little better instead of letting it get to this but I also understand Fulmer’s side as well... I thought it would be decided this morning but evidentially Fulmer wanted to make sure he did everything he could to keep him... which you have to think would mean atleast something to Barnes.

Maybe Penny did scare him off lol

My thoughts on the matter are identical.

BOOM seconded.

Barnes is legit stupid if he thinks he has to go to a blue blood to win the natty

Must not have watched the rest of tournament after he lost. Otherwise he would see that Virgina and TX Tech are playing for the title. Auburn was a close 3rd... not exactly blue bloods there Rick.

What is he going to do in recruiting in that area? He doesn’t like to give hand outs and get his hands dirty. That won’t exactly jive with the ballers in La

For about the 50th time I have stated, go do the research on the Durant team. People just love to throw that example around. K couldn't win with Zion and lottery picks as a supporting cast, and Cal couldn't win with Cousins, Wall, and Bledsoe- all lottery picks. Kevin Durant didn't have nearly the supporting cast, and they were all freshmen (and a sophomore). It's a dumb argument that people just love to use against Barnes. In fact, the following year, he went to the Elite Eight after Durant left.

For one, it's easier to recruit to UCLA. Two, the Pac 12 is just not as good, and it will be easier to navigate. I am really surprised that he considered the move but only because I thought he was happy and where he wanted to be. If he was 45 years old, I am not sure that I can blame him.
