Would definitely be a power move and a reasonably understandable one, IMO. I’m not sure Barnes will ever have more leverage against the AD than he does now. If he sticks around he may have a couple better teams than this year’s team, but I’m not sure he’ll put together one that’s more beloved than this one was.I know there are a lot of rumors, but this may be the only option Barnes thought he had to get Fulmer’s attention concerning staff pay. If that is the case then you have to tip your hat to him for taking care of his staff
The thing is, if he does stay, his intentions will never be disclosed first-hand. Fulmer and Barnes will put it out there that there was nothing to the rumors, but that the two of them knew that it presented a good opportunity to expedite getting together to discuss the state of the program, assistant salary pool, etc.
What year are you reading the from? California has a budget surplus....coaches are paid partly from state funds and the rest is made up from Athletic Foundations. At least that is how it was broken out at the Colleges I worked at.I’ve read articles in the past talking about the struggles UCLA and other state schools are having hiring coaches because the state is in such a budget crunch (want to interject politics so bad!!!lol). Because of this they struggle attracting quality coaches at all levels. Now this pertained specifically to football, but I’m wondering where UCLA is getting all these resources? Boosters for BB only?
Shoot the bastard down, Bass. Cant be the coach of UCLA if you dont have a working plane. View attachment 201017
