I've gone through this crap before with other posters. As if the whole "Memphis isn't even a part of the state" thing doesn't wear on me enough around Vols boards, this is one of the quickest ways to get under my skin. Makes it sound like I'm a t-shirt fan of both schools which couldn't be further from the truth.
I understand...you don't have to tell me.

Bluff City baby....we ride or die.

What's wrong with being a t-shirt fan? If only alums could be fans, Neyland would never sell out. T-shirt fans are an important part of all college fanbases. Saying that as a Tennessee alumnus.
yep. i'd say the vast majority of die hard Bama, UNC, Duke, Notre Dame's fans etc....pick a big name school in a particular sport..... aren't alumni.

yeah, I'm 100% in favor of Rick Byrd coming in and keeping the program strong for 2 or 3 years while we find a new successor. The timing if Rick leaves kills our ability to make a strong replacement.

It's also publicly known that UT is Rick Byrd's dream job. He grew up in and around the program because his father was a known Knoxville sportswriter for many years.

I want to keep Barnes, don't get me wrong. But if they're going to pay him that much, okay, that's fine with me if he goes. There has always been doubts that Barnes is a championship coach and, after watching him do nothing with our best team this year as far as championships, I understand that. But, I think he can go farther when he gets more talent here, so I hope he stays. But if not, there's always a chance of an upgrade. So if he wants to take on a UCLA rebuild and leave a team and fans who love him, aight then

Years spent on campus, in the libraries, at the student unions, making friends, some of whom are life-long, isn't the same as buying a $25 shirt and $30 hat. Even as a transfer student, I'm proud of having attended both schools, because I was the first in my family to do so. Maybe that's why I get worked up on that subject.
so nothing i, or anyone else on this board, says about it should get under your skin that much.

Uh...why, exactly?
Awkward wording, but I think the fact that PF probably won’t be there in five or so years is what Hyams is saying will be tough. It’s a generalization on his part, but new ADs usually like their own guy, so whoever we hire might worry about job security.

Well...who ya'll got as your top 5? A few names I like are below

Rick Byrd (assuming he'd come outta retirement to take it)
Bob Richey
Steve Forbes
Nathan Davis
Dan Majerle
Chris Jans

Plenty of people spend time around Knoxville and going to sports games. I know people who haven't missed a football game in decades and have easily matched whatever you spent in tuition for a couple years in their support for UT athletics. Spending a few semesters as a student at Tennessee doesn't make someone any more of a UT fan than someone who has invested years of time and money into supporting UT athletics. Just like you not graduating from Tennessee doesn't make you any less of a UT fan than UT grads.

You're pretty much the RF king of terrible takes, so I'll assume you know what you're talking about here. It's a great place to live, especially if you're mega-wealthy. Not like he wouldn't be able to afford travel back home as much as he wants.

Maybe Barnes isn't as crusty as most in his demographics and could stomach living outside of sweet-tea-and-bible-land.

Wouldn’t say terrible takes. Definitely on the opposite side of things around here a lot tho. Blame it on being black
