Rick Barnes has emerged as a serious candidate the for UCLA job, reportedly has interviewed

If Barnes is disgruntled that means that most likely, Lanier is as well or at least knows why.
Only thing I can think of, is apparently Barnes has no agent (I don't know if true or not)...but, if there's legs to this thing, it could very well be that he maybe got offended by UTAD, when Cal got lifetime deal, and he's 4-2 against him, and we didn't want to spend more $$$ now because of the Lady Vols hire. If we keep Barnes, I'd suspect this may bring us down a notch or two on what we're willing to spend on the LV coach. Could be wrong.

His buyout at Auburn is 6 million. Barnes' is 5 million. So a million dollar buyout effectively is small beans.

Second- his assistant, only one, Chuck Person has been charged and convicted of using his position for personal future gain and nothing regarding impermissible benefits to the program. Bruce has been exonerated of anything to do with Person at Auburn. The FBI was investigating Person for those issues and that investigation had zero to do with the ongoing pay to play investigation that has consumed the likes of Arizona, Will Wade, Louisville, and other schools.

So your points really make sense as to why he would for sure NOT get a look.
I bet you a swift kick to the balls that Bruce will never coach at Tennessee again

See that is one thing.

Because you are taking a chance because the odds are likely in your favor.

But for some of the village idiots on here to say they can guarantee something will or won't happen are truly asinine.

So Bruce is somehow in trouble for hiring a guy who had issues at a previous job? Wow! Shocking! Breaking News!

Bruce was exonerated of any misdeeds during the Person case.

Saying he is in hot water because of something in Bowman's past is purely asinine....

But hey, anything to knock Pearl right?
Again, not every post about Pearl is an attempt to bash him. But keep seeing what you want to see.

When you grow up and enter the world of business and start dealing with job offers and contracts, you'll understand. You keep all options on the table until you complete negotiations.

Look, Barnes is a hired gun. He's being paid to be here. He doesn't "bleed orange". It's business.

Maybe one day I’ll get it. I’m still trying to get out of my parents house currently, I’m trying to understand though.

The idea of him being coach in waiting made more sense as a courtesy to Barnes, who would retire in 5 or 6 years as a Tennessee Volunteer, and provide a smooth transition. If Barnes is chasing a paycheck now, I think it's fair to wonder if Lanier is ready to handle a high major job like Tennessee, today. In 5 more years, maybe, but he failed in his only stint as a head coach at a low major.

We can, and frankly, should do better, and that isn't a knock towards Lanier. I just don't believe he's ready, and Tennessee shouldn't feel indebted to him and Barnes if Barnes runs off to SoCal for the money.
I’d rather have Ritchie McKay....

The odds are 100% in my favor. The only time BP will step in TBA is as an opposing coach. He screwed Tennessee (fair or unfair), he wouldn't even get a phone call.

Barnes doesn’t have an agent. Tennessee wouldn’t want this to get out. Not sure what this does for UCLA to leak it, not like Barnes is a home run for them. Somebody is leaking it.
Did UCLA leak it? Or, did the media? It matters, and here's why:

Thinking about Jeff Brohm's two big coaching rumors that started over the past 2 off-seasons. The media leaked his "hire" in both cases (Jimmy Hyams for the UT 'hire' and Dan Dakich for the Louisville 'hire'). He also does not have an agent (I think). Likely, Brohm was just angling for more $$, but that is not known for sure. In both cases, Brohm stayed put. It is VERY likely since Barnes is in a similar situation, he is just using this to get UT's attention, and ultimately just "leaked" the info to media to fuel the fire.

Actually it was Cuonzo and Cuonzo isn't close to Barnes caliber
Forgot about that one, I think that was a " mutual" parting of the ways. I was thinking about Kiffin jolting us for USC, which would be more similar to if Brnes decides to leave for UCLA

I’d rather have Ritchie McKay....
McKay has been a lot of up and down in his career. I'm not in love with him, but he is more qualified. If everything at Tennessee stayed status quo by hiring Lanier, I'd probably prefer that, but I wouldn't be overly encouraged by either hire.

I would pass.

UCLA has targeted Bennett of Virginia according to the ESPN report by Low so that could mean that the coaching position might not be filled for a few more days since Bennett wants to wait until the season is over.

I’m just saying if we’re going for a highly regarded assistant at a major program with low Major head coaching experience at least one who has been successful. What he’s done at liberty is remarkable. Ironically, he’s a reason there’s an opening at UCLA in the first place...

I think Barnes is too classy for California. Plus, whatever extra money they throw at him would be confiscated in commie taxes. And to make it even worse his house would probably get burned down by a wildfire at least once. No one Barnes' age moves TO California to retire. Quite the opposite unless you want a vineyard and even then they wouldn't let you have water for it.

Despite your dumb and lazy jokes about California (come on), it’s doesnt seem to be about the money for him at all. It’s more for his assistants and I believe there’s strife between him and Fulmer. Plus UCLA is a better job.
