I like Bruce and all. He is a good coach...but...Is everyone forgetting the issues that he will bring with him?! With FBI now involved, I would think that we need to run as fast as we can in the opposite direction (from anyone who is even rumored to have shady recruiting).

Didn't LSU coach Wade learn his tactics from Bruce? Just don't speak to your AD, and everything will just blow over. Yeah, that's the role model that we need right there!?

Just confirmed via USA Today only 2 HCs make more than 5 million and Barnes is the 14th highest paid coach at his 3.25

This is about sweetening up deals for assistants so he doesn’t lose them to Georgia State more than anything.

Why not? Have a bad experience there?

Its a huge state and there are bad (Fresno, Oakland) places like anywhere, but some really great places too like san diego and santa barbara. Depends where you go, but ive generally found the people very nice and scenery is beautiful all over. Lots of culture and diversity too, so great food...because thats what really matters.

And Governor Moonbeam! That’s a plus.

Atlanta said Pearl would return in a heartbeat.

I believe Bruce would come back, and I think UT is a better basketball town than Auburn too.

I kinda wonder now if we lost Lanier because he couldn’t get a raise and that’s what this is all stemming from.

There aren’t many basketball coaches making 5+ last data I recall. Barnes was already in the top 30 highest paid I believe.
#14 per rucker. #2 in sec. I could see a raise, but not 50%.

That's not enough to make me want to live in CA.

He's undershot it big time. My former employers were Cali based while I worked in TN. I've got over 10 years experience in the real world comparison. You are looking at $6-7 mill to breakeven with what he has now in TN. Most of the indexes people use to compare leave out the local tax and regulation effect on consumer goods, real estate, fuel, utilities, etc. The indexes have next to no real world view of other issues such as preferred places to live based on commutes, quality of life, etc.

I think we lost Lanier because he got the chance to return to head coaching at a program that isn't in the toilet and has good returning talent. If he can prove himself there, someone will come by with a bigger offer. It was a really good career move for him.

What I can tell you is when that report first surfaced from Evan Daniels yesterday people in the athletic department thought it was “laughable.” Then they got a call from Rick.

As normal though, that report was behind. It came out last night night, and Barnes and Fulmer were meeting around 8-9:00 pm.

I spent about a month out there in the mid eighties. There is a lot to like. The weather out there is like full-on Spring here, without the wind and rain - every day.

I don’t ever recall a time when we have paid a basketball coach more than football.

But weve never had a coty on one hand and a 2nd year 5-7 hc on the other hand either. The gap is vast and inequitable no doubt. But that goes in line with sport revenues i believe football is the breadwinner. Hell how much did pat ever make? not phil money

In other news Ill have some more intel on the Barnes situation later today and relay what I can.
This would be interesting in the fact the door could now be open for you know who to come back. And make no mistake about it....he would love to come back.

In other news...this weekend is going to be a BIG one for football recruiting. There will be many on radar and a few off radar folks coming in for the Spring game. The foundation of the class will be laid this weekend.

Ohhhhhhhh boy!....please. allow me.😊😁🤘🏽

I prefer the scenery in my backyard, and the culture and food in Tennessee.

Cal & Coach K both making over 5 million.

Izzo is close but in the 4+ range, Bennett is 4th...all Final Four coaches.

Love Barnes, but he is making plenty based on performance so far. If UCLA is going to put him in the top three highest paid coaches...let them. Just don’t see any justification to pay him 4+ until he puts a team in the FF

Disagree, the former coach went to Tulane...I don’t think Lanier will get a P5 offer out of that HC job unless he does something extraordinary like a Sweet Sixteen run or something.

Well that would be a big ole lie considering we are throwing brink after brink at the football program. 1.2m for helton, 1.5m for retread chaney, 1m for ansley. I could see why Barnes may not like he, national Coty and 3 decade veteran, is basically making same or less than a 2nd year football HC. But youd think hed be use to playing 2nd fiddle at texas. idk

its basketball.

Did you work with multimillionaires? Again, it is not linear. Think barnes cares if it costs 400 a month, rather than 200, to heat and cool his home? Utilities, consumer goods, dont care in this analysis.

I’m with you. I’m really fine with whatever they decide to do here. Pay him or let him walk, we’ll be fine either way.
I would normally agree but I don't have any confidence that UT will hire anyone that will last more than 3-4 years before we are shopping again. My guess is we'll slip back to the bottom or close to it again.
