Look, this is not a blue blood job. It's not a dream job for the big names of the sport. UT isn't going to attract guys like Barnes very often. And this notion that we can just keep raising the offer to some insane level to the point they won't say no isn't living in reality. It takes the right time and set of circumstances. This run and with Barnes was something of a perfect storm. It just worked for both parties at the time.
If he leaves, I thank him for his efforts and the 2 great seasons we enjoyed, but UT like most other programs not named Kentucky, UCLA, Duke, UNC, etc will have to find an up and coming coach who's the right fit and that can recruit his tail off. Pretty much the basketball version of Pruitt. You can witch and moan about UT being cheap, but you can't force someone to come to a place that they don't want to be. I know this might be hard to believe, but not everyone considers east Tennessee to be a dream job or dream spot to live. And yes, I was born and raised there, but I don't live there and have no desire to return either. We'll get a good coach if Barnes leaves. He'll face a huge rebuild, but it's not like we've not been there before. Pretty much every sport at UTK is in or recently been in the crapper.
